Shirley Mae (1936 - 2015) was our cousin, daughter of Everett, and a beloved supporter of her family and Hill Farmstead. In her honor, this American session version of our Everett porter is crafted from American malted barley, English and German roasted malts, American hops, our ale yeast, and water from our well. Chocolate, coffee, and light malty sweetness, this ale embodies her ebullient and generous spirit—a fitting tribute.

[ As Hill Farmstead Shirley Mae ].Dark black brown color with a large, creamy, good lacing, mostly lasting, light beige head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, roasted, chocolate, dusty malt, sweet roasted. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet and bitter with a long duration, dusty, chocolate, coffee - roasted. Body is medium, texture is oily to watery, carbonation is soft. [20160512]

Draft. A black beer with a brown head. The aroma has notes of roasted malt, smoke, ash, bread, and chocolate. The flavor is sweet with notes of roasted malt, ash, ans chocolate, leading to a very bitter finish. The body is light.

Keg @ WarPigs. Pours brownish black with a frothy mocha head that leaves some thick lacing on the glass while dissipating. Smell is malty and roasty with roasted malts, burnt cereal, caramel, dark roast coffee, sweet liquorice candy and minerals. Taste is slightly sweet, slightly bitter, malty and roasty. Mouthfeel is soft, tiny dry, slightly roasted astringent and light bodied. Finish is tiny sweet and bitter with heavy roast malts, coffee and ashy soil. Solid and sessionable but not my favourite.

Draught @ Sunswick 35/35. Inky black with foamy beige head, coffee beans aroma, low carbonation, initially slightly sweet followed by bitter coffee taste, somewhat thick body, medium bitter finish. Smooth and tasty though a bit weak.

From tap at Warpigs, Copenhagen. Dark brown to black color with beige brown head. Roasted malty aroma, chocolate, coffee, wood, smoked notes - tar. Sweet and bitter taste, woody and smoked like aroma. Medium oily body with soft carbonation.
