Shirley Mae (1936 - 2015) was our cousin, daughter of Everett, and a beloved supporter of her family and Hill Farmstead. In her honor, this American session version of our Everett porter is crafted from American malted barley, English and German roasted malts, American hops, our ale yeast, and water from our well. Chocolate, coffee, and light malty sweetness, this ale embodies her ebullient and generous spirit—a fitting tribute.

A deep dark stout with a thick frothy creamy brown head. In aroma, chocolate and coffee malt with light grassy hops, light vanilla, pleasant. In mouth, a nice sweet fruity chocolate malt with light vanilla notes, light coffee notes, nice and smooth. On tap at Big Fatty’s bbq, White River Junction.

4 oz pour on nitro at ChurchKey during the Hill Farmstead tap takeover on 4/1/2017. Not an April Fool’s Joke. Dark brownish black with light tan head. Aromas of roasty notes, coffee, dark chocolate. Tastes of roasty notes, dark chocolate, light dark fruit. Medium body with a dry finish.

750 ml growler, thanks to Heather and Adam. Aromas of roast, coffee, caramel, dark fruit, light chocolate.
The flavor is light earthy hop flavor and a spice from the rye add a bit of complexity. Mild chocolate with a hint of smoke. Body is somewhat fan but for 4% really good. Super crushable, large amounts can be swilled. Silly flavor for such a low gravity brew. Nice.

(On tap @ Warpigs HF Day, Copenhagen, May 12 2016) Pours black with a tight pale tan head and lace. Aroma of chocolate and cocoa powder, ashy, dusty roast, light coffee, slightly sweet core, a touch grainy even. Flavour moderately sweet to start but rapidly drying, with dark malt, milk chocolate, dusty, a little cold coffee, bittering hops, ashy towards the bone dry, slightly bitter back end. Fairly light body, oily, soft carbonation. Extremely drinkable low ABV session porter, nice flavour, probably blown out side by side with stronger stuff but could gulp all day.

Growler. Pours deep brown with a frothy, mocha foam head. The nose has some ashy roast, cocoa. Light sweet flavour with nice baking cocoa character, bitter scorched earth, ash, leather. Medium bodied with massaging carbonation. Bittersweet chocolate finish, more toast, woody dryness, leathery berries. Great stuff. Well rounded.
