F: medium size, tanned, poor retention. C: dark, opaque. A: chocolate, malty, coffee, cocoa, hint of lactic, bit dark fruits. T: malty, roasted, coffee, cocoa, chocolate, dry on the palate, quite watery but for 4,5% not bad, light to medium body, low to medium carbonation, almost enjoyed, GF so I can share with my wife, 355ml bottle from Auchan Market in Luxembourg.

4.5% abv. Bottle from Terre de Boissons Calais and drunk at home. Black beer lasting tan head. Some chocolate some liquorice, some paper. Smooth in the mouth. But a bit too liquorice for me. A little fizzy on the finish. OK, but not to my taste.

Nearly opaque dark brown colour with a ruby red hue, small frothy tan head, recedes quickly, minimal lacing. Aroma roasted malts, cocoa, caramel. Thin flavour, light heavy to medium sweet, slightly bitter, roasty, milk chocolate. Sweetbitter aftertaste, light coffee and chocolate. Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation, kind of tame for an American porter, decent though.

Bottle from Beers of Europe, Kings Lynn and shared at the 3rd Ipswich bottle share. Pours flat mahogany brown with a watery beige head. Aroma is very malty, with some treacle, roasted coffee and chocolate, but mainly malt which is rather overpowering. Moderate sweetness and light bitterness. Average body and texture is a bit thin. Soft carbonation. Finish is dry and conjures up memories of cheap ’advent calendar’ chocolate. Disappointing, least favoured beer on the day.

Taste is dry, minimally sweet dark malty, slightly fruity, hints of red berries, cherry, plum, minimally chocolately undertones. Not bad.
