Originally designed to be a hoppier version of our flagship Saison, the accidental (but fortuitous) addition of two extra bags of Munich malt balanced out the hop bitterness leaving us this very unique beer. Tropic King bursts with fruity tropical characteristics from the use of New Zealand hop varietals. This beer is a flavor extravaganza that has developed a loyal following. Notes of passion fruit, mango, pepper, and ginger.
Pairs well with hula hooping.

Bottle bought @ Systembolaget. Pours very hazy deep golden with a huge frothy and slightly fizzy offwhite head that leaves lots of sticky and spotty trace on the glass while dissipating. Smell is fruity and slightly spicy with crackers, freshly baked white bread, overripe tropical fruits, overripe citrus fruits, moist grass, dry soil, white pepper corns, overripe apples and hints of alcohol. Taste is slightly sweet, tiny bitter, fruity and tiny phenolic with white bread, baked pears, overripe tropical fruits, grapefruit juice, orange zest, lemon zest, banana bread, grapeskins, apple skins, marzipan and hints of alcohol. Mouthfeel is slightly dry, slightly crisp, round and medium bodied. Finish is slightly sweet, slightly bitter, estery and phenolic with yeasty dough, hay, dry soil, baked pears, marzipan, banana bread, orange zest, lemon zest and grapeskins. Bit too high on the boost.

Hazy golden coloured body with a nice two centimetre tall frothy white head. Aroma of pale malt, yeast, grass, hay, wheat and a lot of light herbal spiciness. Medium-bodied; Strong malt and yeast characteristic all the way through with a pungent fruit flavour and some lighter sweetness and a touch of herbs and spices. Aftertaste shows some nice fruity flavours, but the showcase is the malt and especially the drying characteristics that are noticeable. Overall, a good saison with a nice and fragrant aroma and a well-balanced flavour. Definitely worth trying if you can find this! I sampled this pint on draught from Mellow Mushroom in Denver, Colorado for US$4.99 on 08-June-2014.

7400th rating! Also kind of an ironic choice for a snowstorm. Pours a hazy burnt orange color with a massive foamy tan head. Pretty much all head, actually. Aroma of citrus and tropical fruits with some biscuit malts and a strong yeasty note. The taste is stone fruits, apple juice, citrus, tropical fruits, canned fruit cocktail, mild spice, mild bready malts. Medium bodied, slight lingering spice. Solid.

Root Down, Denver tap ($8): Pours slightly cloudy orange with a white head. Aroma is saison funk, tropical fruit, spices, citrus. Taste is pretty funky and fruity. Alcohol is slightly felt in the taste. Body is somewhere around medium. Nice amount of funk. Hoppy undertones. This was pretty good. The fruitiness and the different hops make this one an interesting sipper.

75cl bottle pours a murky neon orange with lots of frothy head. Nose has tons of fruit, tangerine, yeast, pineapple, some pepper. Flavor is sweet, mango, tropical fruit, pepper, yeast, orange, tangerine, malt. Spicy finish. Very high, distracting carbonation.
