Young’s London Stout is brewed with Young’s secret yeast culture and oatmeal to deliver a smooth and creamy beer which has a richer and slightly sweeter taste than Irish stouts.

Fabulously presented in a pin-striped glass, near black with a creamy pale tan head. Massively chilled so aroma very much subdued, eventually came through as roasted malt with a touch of chocolate, creamy smooth but just a little thin, roasted malt prevails with some chocolate sweetness and coffee bitterness.

Keg @ Calthorpe Arms, London. Very dark reddish-brown with a small creamy head. Has less than full roasted malts in both aroma and taste with a very mild sweetness attached.

Bouteille. [notes 2006]

Rated from notes. Pours black from the bottle with a wonderful creamy head that lingers and lingers. Strong chocolate aroma with a hint of fruit liqueur. Taste is rich roasted malt, chocolate, and oatmeal. Very rich and quite sweet, but still balanced enough to drink in relative quantity. Excellent stuff.

Keg at the Mitre, Lancaster Gate. It pours jet black with a thick, creamy light tan head. The nose is bitter - sweet, creamy roast, coffee grounds, cacao nib and toasted nut. The taste is smooth, mellow bitter, toasted, charred roast, black pepper, coffee grounds and weak cocoa with a slightly dry finish. Medium body and moderate, velvety carbonation. Not exactly bursting with flavour but has a nice mouth - feel, is well rounded and rather drinkable. Decent.

En botella. 5,2% ABV. Casi negra y opaca. Espuma beige.
