Leute Bokbier was first brewed in 1927. It was then called Leutebock and was a lager (bottom fermentation), a completely different beer than the current one. Production was stopped after a number of years. In 1997, 70 years later, Leute Bokbier was relaunched as a completely different beer.
Fun fact: the name “bokbier” does not refer to bokbier, but literally to the ''bok'' or buck.

330ml bottle. Clear, dark ruby colour with average to huge, thick, creamy, moderately to mostly lasting, moderately lacing, beige head. Toasty, minimally nutty and chocolately, malty aroma, hints hazelnut, milk chocolate, whiffs of coffee, instant coffee, all accompanied by an earthy, almost fungous touch. Taste is minimally sugary, sweet-ish, slightly nutty, toasty malty, slightly fruity, hints of caramel, cherry bonbon, red berries, a touch of cocoa, coffee, liquorice, moderately bitter, hoppy counterpart. Creamy, oily texture, smooth and soft, minimally cloying palate, fine, creamy carbonation. In a way the most (dark) bock-ish Belgian Dark Ale known to me, malt dominated, sweet-ish, but still finer, lighter, more easy drinkable than a bottom fermented Dark Bock - very nice.
