Leute Bokbier was first brewed in 1927. It was then called Leutebock and was a lager (bottom fermentation), a completely different beer than the current one. Production was stopped after a number of years. In 1997, 70 years later, Leute Bokbier was relaunched as a completely different beer.
Fun fact: the name “bokbier” does not refer to bokbier, but literally to the ''bok'' or buck.

330ml bottle at home. Pours very dark mahogany brownish red with a large off white head. Nose is toffee, dark fruit, spice, brown bread. Flavour is toffee malt sweetness combined with the dark fruit, a slight bit of dark chocolate bitterness. Oily and thick mouthfeel.

Creamy off white head stayed on a reddish brown body. Treacle, malt & toffee aroma. Medium bodied, smooth & thinning out to a clean back. Treacle, toffee, roasted, caramel & sweet fruity tastes. Easy drinker - just a bit too thin

Bottle from Lidl. Pours a murky mahogany colour with a medium sized thick creamy beige head. Aromas of dry dark fruits, fruit cake, caramel, toffee and candied sugar. Taste has more of the dark fruit tones with more caramel, sticky toffee, burnt brown bread, spice and brown sugar on a slightly sweet and also slightly bitter finish. Thin to medium body, fair carbonation and oily mouthfeel. Nice one.

Bottle from a cheeky wee 4-pack at Lidl Inverurie. It pours clear darkest ruby with a decent bubbly beige head. The aroma is sweet - sour, loads of dark fruits, cherry, jammy, plum, fig, blackberry, blackcurrant, warming spice, Eccles cake and toasty malt. The taste is dry, bitter - sweet, roasted malt, toasty, plenty of juicy tangy dark fruits, plum, fig, blackberry, blackcurrant, fruit cake, sourness, toasty oak, spice, tannin and a touch of alcohol with a toasty dark fruit finish. Medium+ body and moderate, bubbly carbonation. Nice fruity action. Drinks well.
