Espresso is a drink that is not for the faint of heart. Pulling a perfect shot is as much a science as it is an art form. Come to think of it, the same can be said for brewing beer. Of course, both coffee and beer have certain, shall we say ‘uplifting’ qualities. Combine the two is a natural progression.

Draught @ Alewife. Inky black with small creamy beige head, espresso aroma (really!), medium carbonation, dominating bitter espresso taste, thin body, long finish with bitter coffee aftertaste. The espresso part is a bit too dominant.

Slight smell of zesty acidic coffee, reminds me of acetate magnetic tape. Taste is fer sure black coffee but it has this pointed astringent bitter thing happening on top of the coffee. What else can be said. Not one of my fave coffee beers, wew.

Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a black color with a huge creamy dark brown head that lingered and left decent lacing. The aroma was coffee, roasty and toasty malts, vanilla and orange. Th flavor was coffee, toasty, roasty, coffee grounds, vanilla and touches of orange and chocolate. long finish. Moderately full bodied. Nice.

Coffee nose, neither strong nor dark roast. Black, thin tan head, not much retention. Where the nose was lacking in intensity, that is certainly not the case on the palate. Very strong coffee flavor, good bitterness. Lasting coffee and tree bark on the back of the tongue. Full body, but not viscous, well carbonated. I’d actually prefer a little less carbonation, particularly for this type and style of beer. Some so-called espresso beers merely have the flavor of coffee, but not the character of actual espresso. This beer delivers with the appropriate intensity. A little one-note, but well made and enjoyable.

12oz bottle from Wegmans, West Seneca, NY. A pitch black pour with a tawny glow when held to the light and a tight tan head - this has the looks of a perfect stout; the aroma os of woody coffee with some lemon oils; in the mouth it’s rich and creamy, but also has a strong, dry, bitter coffee element; and a lingering silky, bittersweet finish. Another very impressive beer from Southern Tier.

12 ounce bottle. Pours an opaque brown color with a large rocky light tan head.faint roasted malt nose with notes of citrus hops.,rich roasted malt flavor is sweet, silky and delicious. Notes of espresso, bittersweet chocolate and citrus hops. Bitterness in the finish is reminiscent of resiny hops and smoked malt. There is a faint note of lemon peel here as well. Quite unique and quite tasty.
