Available in cask, bottles and cans, Courage Directors was originally brewed exclusively for the directors of the Alton brewery, but following demand, the beer was made available to the public. Full bodied with a clean, bitter taste, balanced with a sweet burnt, malty and fruity notes with a distinctive dry-hop aroma and flavour. Brewed with English Target hops, burnt Pale and Crystal malts.

Ubiquitous cask affair of the mid to late 90s (for me) .... Terry keeps a good pint of Directors many a GBG entry would tell us back in the day.

The Reckless Engineer outside Temple Meads station was a regular stop for this average cask offering for me particularly in the 98/99 period.

Passable when kept well ... downright terrible when not.

Clear amber with a frothy white head and a malty, fruity aroma. Pretty thin to be honest, fruity and malty and somewhat bitter

RERATE : Cask at Oddfellows Arms, Nantwich (not listed on RateBeer). Pours bitter brown with a sizeable frothy off-white head with toffee in the aroma. In the mouth it is quite juicy with malts to the fore plus a hint of traditional hops. Later some sweetness comes through with oranges and spicy traces. ORIGINAL REVIEW : Cask at Roebuck, Burton on Trent Bit of a hasty review this, as I had a train to catch. May need a rerate. Pours bitter brown with a small cream head and good lacing. Has an aroma of cream and toffee. In the mouth it is sweet with flavours of oranges, malts and toffee. Some bitterness in the finish. Swiggable. (5:6:6:3:10= 2.7) CONCLUSION : I got the description pretty much correct first time – but it is now much more enjoyable. Perhaps because it is now brewed by Marstons in Burton ?
