Available in cask, bottles and cans, Courage Directors was originally brewed exclusively for the directors of the Alton brewery, but following demand, the beer was made available to the public. Full bodied with a clean, bitter taste, balanced with a sweet burnt, malty and fruity notes with a distinctive dry-hop aroma and flavour. Brewed with English Target hops, burnt Pale and Crystal malts.

Cask @ Chambers, Jersey. Clear brown with an off-white head. Aroma is sweet, malty, caramel and light hoppy - grass. Flavor is medium sweet and moderate bitter. Dry and moderate bitter finish. 170714

Cask at The Vic, Preston, with memories of many a night at the studentโs Union bar, Leeds. Nutty aromas, some toffee and light spice. Sweet taste, sweet finish, bit sticky. Iโm sure this used to be darker and stronger in the 90s. And we had proper music then, not like what they have nowadays.

On tap @ the Bailie. Pours amber with some gentle carbonation and a decent head. The nose has mostly malt with just a hint of sweetness. The taste has malt, honey and spice. The palate is medium bodied with a good texture and a fairly well balance finished. Overall, solid, though no great shakes by todayโs standards.

Appearance: Clear deep copper color with a creamy off white head. Nice curtain lacing.
Aroma: Slightly sweet fruity and malty.
Palate: Medium body. A bit sweet and a mild bitterness. Creamy carbonation.
Taste: Slightly sweet fruity and lots of caramel malt.
Overall impression: More a standard cask bitter than a premium bitter.
