Draft at the brewpub. Brown pour without much head. Slight reddish hue. Mild lacing. Nice roast, fruit, and bread. Toffee notes. Light-medium body. Easy drinking. Smooth and clean. Nice example of the style.

St Gambrinus, Brooklyn tap: pours black with a tan head. Aroma is chocolate and coffee. Taste is very full of freshly ground coffee. Pretty thick for the relatively low alcohol. Quite nice it is.

A deep dark porter with a very thin brown head. In aroma, nice chocolate malt with light grassy hops, light licorice notes, very nice. In mouth, a nice chocolate malt with light grassy hops, light mineral notes, molasses, smooth coffee notes, very nice. On tap at brewery.

Draught at Dirck the Norseman. Dark brown with reddish tint, small foamy tan head, mocha aroma, low carbonation, chocolate taste, longish finish. Quite an enjoyable porter, in fact I thought this was the best among the available beers at the time.
