This light chestnut-brown session beer has a fresh, grainy, biscuity nose with a hint of fresh citrus fruit in the background. The palate tingles with a stunning counterplay between grainy, biscuity maltiness and a sprightly citrusy fruity centre and a suggestion of mint. The refreshing finish is a Challenger hop-driven bittersweetness with a lingering dryness, while traces of biscuity maltiness, a whisper of chocolate (from a pinch of chocolate malt in the mash) and fruit also make an appearance. The sort of finish that says ‘have another sip’.

Hops: Goldings, Challenger, First Gold and Styrian Bobek

Cask at The Tynte Arms, Enmore. The beer suits the pub - completely unmodern and not even trying. Murky mahogany look. Bit creamy. Dull but gluggable enough.

Cask at Cromwells, Shrewsbury. Pours “bitter brown” with a small cream head and good lacing. Malts to the fore in the aroma alongside some butter and cheesecake. In the mouth it is fairly sweet but with a little underlying bitterness. Flavour has malts and autumn fruits plus hints of oats, herbs and spice. Finish is slightly dry. This is a decent old school bitter.

Perfekt tappet fra cask på The Royal Oak i Luxborough, sammen med Steven: klar, mørk kobber med utmerket skum. Milde urter, karamell, citrus og hint av skog. Delikat drikke, et klassisk engelsk understatement.

Cask pint on 18th July 2018 at The Thelbridge Cross Inn, just outside Witheridge, Devon. Light amber, clear and bright, the head a thin white blanket of foam. Malty front to the semi-sweet brew in both the nose and taste, mild bitterness creeps in later to give a nicely balanced easy drinking 'Cooking Bitter'.

tap at the Black Horse in Sidmouth. Golden with a small but creamy white head and promising hopy aromas. Light-bodied, yet full of malty goodness and lots of citrusy, fruity hops. Smooth palate. Perfectly balanced, easy drinking and full of flavour. Good, good stuff!

Fra cask på The Lamb, Bloomsbury 23 Sep 14. Mørk gyldenbrun. Lavt tett skum. Smaken har et lite preg av fjøs. Smaken er litt tynn men en aner tørket frukt.

On cask at the Haymarket. Appearance - amber with a decent head. Nose - faint biscuity toffee with an unwelcome sulphur note. Taste - toffee and biscuit. Palate - close to medium bodied with a creamy texture and a fairly good finish. Overall - won’t return to this one.
