Appearance: Clear amber with a medium sized white head and some lacing

Sampled on draft at Bocktown in Robinson Twp PA this beer poured a murky orange-amber color with a medium sized orange-beige head that lingers and produced great lacing. The aroma was tangy, tart and nutty with strong floral and fruit hops that were a bit rough. The flavor was bitter and full of intense fruity and floral hops with a hint of orange and a tangy malt base. The hops lingered on the long finish. Fairly full bodied. Good.

A hazy amber ale with a thin creamy white head. A doughy hoppy aroma with notes of peaches. In mouth, a good malty IPA with resinous hops, menthol, sustained alcohol. Medium bodied. Not bad. On tap at Blind Tiger, NYC, May 30 2008.

@Ginger Man-on tap-pours a rich retaining light tan head that laces and hazy gold color. Aroma is mild grapefruit/peach. Taste is sweet grapefruit-citrus/resin hops, (cascade+) slick/I2PA mouth feel [OK, found out later it is an I2PA], caramel, secondary husky medium malt, alcohol, some smoky. Mild/OK carbonation.

Thick amber color with a big head and sticky lacing. Aroma is lightly resin-y, lightly citrus, and bittered sweet flower petals. taste is actually strong sweet malts with hoppy apple.

(Draught at Stockholm Beer Festival, 29 Sep 2007) Amber colour with creamy beige head. Fruity nose with grapefruit, dried fruit, pine needles and resin. A bit sweet and sweaty. Full, fruity taste with loads of hops, grapefruit, pine needles and resin. Full body, thick and syrupy. A bit too sweet. Balanced is hardly the correct word. Saved by the massive and irresistible hop character.

OK, had to go for this. Even though I’m not a fan of IPA, I keep tasting in the hopes I’ll find one in this style that I can appreciate. This was on tap at the Mad Mex in Robinson so I couldn’t pass it up. Color is slightly darker than your ubiquitous pale yellow American lager. Aroma is really floral hops. Very bitter first taste. A quality that only an IPA lover could love. I would swear that somebody looked for the most bitter grapefruit rinds they could find then ground them up and added them to this brew. Has a bit of earthiness that I normally don’t detect in IPA. This stuff was way too much for my girlie taste buds, it just mowed them over like a John Deere. Barely any carbonation, almost flat. Finish is back of your throat terrible bitterness that just keeps going and going and going like the energizer bunny. Somebody give me a Weyerbacher Old Heathen to chase this down with, yeeow. I’m not making any apologies for this rating.

I had several samples of this at the Blue Point cask fest, served from the "world’s largest cask," which, as durandal points out, was simply a fermenter with a hand pump attached - quite hazy golden out of the pump, with an impressive, and quite foamy head for a cask beer - people talk a lot about hoppy beers having a grapefruit aroma, but this beer had the biggest, brightest grapefruit aroma I’ve ever smelled, along with some other fruits, such as peach and orange - the background of the aroma is mostly sticky sweet-smelling malts,some bready/yeasty character, and suprisingly subdued alcohol - quite full-bodied and "chewy," as they say - the beer is a bit cloying at first, with a lot of syrupy, carmel flavor, but a gradual swell of woody/pine-like, dry, earthy hop character balances it out just in time - the alcohol is a bit apparent, but as this is a young beer, I’m sure that will mellow out in no time - my only concern is that, once they keg it (and possibly bottle it) they will filter all of the goodness out of it - but, on cask, this is one formidable IIPA, and one that stands up to the best of them.
