Some may remember Daybreak, an imperial stout brewed with organic citrus zest. Originally brewed in 2011, at a time when we coined the phrase ICU (international citrus unit), this rebrewed version of our original collaborative adventure resulted from the creative friendship between two transatlantic travelers. Denmark and our Danish friends have long been a continual source of inspiration; thus we are honored to re-release Daybreak as a collaboration with our friend, Mikkel Borg Bjergsø of Mikkeller.

Bottled. A pitch black beer with a thin dark brown head. The aroma has notes of chocolate, malt, alcohol, and alcohol. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt, alcohol, chocolate, and over ripe fruits, leading to a dry alcoholic finish.

Bottle. A small, dense, tan head sits on top of a black body. The aroma is on the roasted kind, with lots of chocolate, coffee and also some citrusy hoppyness. A touch of licorice blends in. The flavor is in the same league and going down the same road, although a bit more heavy on the licorice. Very smooth on the palate, full-bodied and lighlty warming. Lasting finish with a nice bitterness. A wonderful imperial stout. 120218

Thanks Wally! I had this in a Riedel Snifter at room temp A - Beautiful beer. It had a 1-finger head that was a deep tan color. The beer itself was dark brown to black. The pour was just beautiful! S - Chocolates, maltiness, figs, vanilla and bananas. The chocolate is very well balanced with everything else. T - Sugar, raisins, chocolate and some burnt notes. Everything about this beer was balanced and exquisite. M - Solid beer with big carbonation, very heavy-bodied O - Wow. Fantastic beer. My only complaint is that it was too bitter on the lingering after-taste. Everything else was awesome.

Opaque black with an oily beige head. Roasty burnt chocolate, coffee aroma. Smooth and mellow, easy on the palate. A solid Imperial Stout all the way, mellow citrus tones. Mellow, sublime carbonation. Hide/incorporates the alcohol expertly. Solid.

Bottle shared by Steve at my house. Pours black with brown head. Nose/taste of orange rind, heavily roasted smooth chocolate, citrus and vanilla. Orange rind and citrus intertwine beautifully and seamlessly with the roasted chocolate body. I was skeptical at first when I heard there would be a citrus imperial stout, but this is amazing high quality craftsmanship.
