Some may remember Daybreak, an imperial stout brewed with organic citrus zest. Originally brewed in 2011, at a time when we coined the phrase ICU (international citrus unit), this rebrewed version of our original collaborative adventure resulted from the creative friendship between two transatlantic travelers. Denmark and our Danish friends have long been a continual source of inspiration; thus we are honored to re-release Daybreak as a collaboration with our friend, Mikkel Borg Bjergsø of Mikkeller.

Pours black into a tulip. Mocha head with excellent retention recedes to hug rim leaving spot lacing. Dark chocolate orange aromas. Thick with dark chocolate and orange upfront turning to chalky dark espresso in the lasting finish.

2012 bottle thanks to Leighton. Pours a dark brown with small beige head that lasts. The aroma is licorice, roasted malt, char, smoke. Slick body, similar flavors to nose, held up extremely well.

500 ml shared by TJ. Thank you! Aroma has roasted malt, showing chocolate and slight ash. The flavor has a ton of roast, ash, smoke. I guess so,e citrus is hiding under the roast, toward the finish. Body and texture are good. Just a ton of roast. Ummmm good.

Aroma is roast, ash, earthy coffee. Taste is alot of roast, chocolate, coffee, and light citrus in the finish. Was hoping for more citrus to balance the roast.

On tap at Armsby Abbey with Paul and Josh on Zwanze Day 4/20/2024. Pours an opaque dark black with a decent sized tan head that slowly dissipates. Rich roasty licorice and chocolate with a hint of smoke and a subtle citrus orange character. Wow that is a great sipper.

Bottle at the brewery, 4/3/24. Clear mahogany. Small, tan head to cover. Chocolatey, nutty, malty nose with good attenuation and no heavy roast or booze. Really rich, with balancing acidity, dark chocolate, hints of roast and lingering dark sourdough. Wow, that's kind of crazy drinkable and approachable for an imperial stout. No weird yeast and just the right amount of malt sweetness and acidity for balance. Incredible.

From old notes. From tap at Copenhagen Beer Celebration 2012. Black color with brown head. Roasted malty aroma, coffee, dark chocolate, fruity. Sweet and bitter taste like aroma. Medium to full almost creamy body with soft carbonation.
