Kopi Luwak is one of the World's most expensive and rare coffee varieties. The beans are specifically selected for their ripeness and quality by the civet, a small jungle marsupial that feeds off the fruit of the coffee cherry. They are then gathered by humans from the jungle floors of Indonesia, thoroughly cleaned, and sun-dried. A precise roasting by San Diego's Ryan Bros. Coffee leads to an extremely aromatic and an exceptionally smooth final product that complements this barrel-aged imperial stout amazingly well. Good to the last dropping.

Bottle courtesy of rlgk. Pours black with a mocha head that leaves a small trace on the glass while dissipating. Smell is sweet and malty with roasted malts, burnt caramel, toffee, vanilla fudge, charred wood, dark chocolate, dark roast coffee, chocolate covered cherries, bourbon alcohol and soil. Taste is sweet, tiny bitter and malty with roasted malts, caramel, toffee, vanilla fudge, charred wood, dark roast coffee, dark chocolate, roasted coconut, moist soil, bourbon alcohol and hints of banana bread. Mouthfeel is soft, round, velvety, slightly boozy, tiny astringent and near full bodied. Finish is tiny sweet, slightly bitter and malty with roasted malts, burnt caramel, toffee, vanilla fudge, roasted coconut, dark chocolate, moist soil and hints of bourbon alcohol. Great balance between the barrel and base beer. Really damn tasty!

Bottle sample at the Copenhagen Beer Celebration 2014 - yellow session. Huge thanks to ronny / tkrjukoff for the sample. Aroma is big earthy / dirty coffee, soft roast, booze, vanilla. A lot of complexity in the aroma. Viscous black motor oil pour with a relucant tan head. Flavour is boozy alcoholo, dark choc, dirty coffee, earthy. Smooth palate, viscous with lowish carbonation. Spicy finish. Some apparent rubbing alcohol is a bit off putting, otherwise it is excelent.

At a tasting, thanks DSG, small creamy head, very dark brown to black colour, , aroma of prunes, vanila and coconut with some almonds and coffee, flavour of dried fruits, roasted coffee, dark chocolate and chocolate liquor and some nuts. Nice but the barrel character is much too strong.
