Rumble IPA is an American IPA with subtle nuance. Brewed with heavy-handed additions of Pacific Northwest hops, this beer is gently aged on French and American oak resulting in a wonderful balance of bitterness, caramel sweetness, vanilla, and undertones of pine and citrus.

35,5 cl bottle @ hotel room, Los Angeles. Bottled 06.04.2015. Aroma is sweetish wit apricot, resin and fruity tones. Flavour has sweetish apricot, resiny malt, fruits and sweet berry juice. American sweetness and resin are strong in this one.

Pours dark orange with a small head. Aroma of oak, grassy hops, sweet caramel, toffee, citrus and vanilla. Taste is sweetish, caramely and citrusy with some oak, toffee, grass and pine. Finish is sweet, oaky and grassy. A bit strange.

I tried to keep up on Great Divide’s beers for a long time, but they just pump the damned things out so quickly that I’ve long since kept current, but it’s nice to try a new one now and again...that being said, I was curious about this one, if not so hopeful. The appearance is a lovely burnished copper, good clarity and a creamy, light beige head atop with good retention.
In the nose, however, not that it smells bad, there’s just a ton of strong, sourdough-like oakiness and even more caramel. Smells very barleywine-like to me and much stronger than a 7.1% ipa. While the PNW hops are certainly there, adding light pine, plentiful orange rind and grapefruit, all of their potential brightening edge is sunk in to the caramel and oak and it seems round, sweet and heavy.
The mouthfeel, unsurprisingly, is very supple from all of the malt; at least there are no harsh/astringent wood tannins. Carbonation seems appropriate, medium-light but nicely tight/engaging. Obviously not meant to be compared exactly as an IPA, but even taking it for what it is, it’s just a lot of dull caramel sweetness, big toasted oak flavors and some misplaced bitterness and acidity from the hops. If you like over-the-top barleywines.....

355ml bottle. Clear golden amber color with off white head. Hoppy and malty aroma, sweet citrusy fruity, light pine, caramel, light alcohol. Sweet and bitter taste like aroma with some wood notes. Medium oily body with soft carbonation.

12 ounce bottle. Amber orange with a moderate Rocky beige head. Caramel malt nose has a touch of wood. Soft toasted malt character upfront has notes of vanilla and oak. Subtle hops in midtaste have a peppery note. The oakiness comes through in the finish, but it is just an accent, not very prominent. Excellent IPA is eminently drinkable.

Bottle sample at Beer Market Jaffa. Thanks Ariel. Clear copper with an off-white head. Aroma of malt, a bit biscuity and caramelly and rather stale hops. Sweet malty flavor with some caramel, some wood and a bitter finish with stale hops. Medium-bodied. Sweet and stale.

12oz bottle. Sweet caramel vanilla aroma. Creamy off-white head. Hazy, what looks to be unfiltered orange-gold body. Big but drinkable IPA. The oak lends a little bit of a sweetness, which coupled with the rich malts, is a little over the top. The hops are kind of piny,, syrupy, resinous. Full bodied, a decent beer.
