Aroma of ripe fruits, plum, nectarine, wine, oak, maple syrup, grapes, some alcohol. Flavour is heavy sweet, thick fruity. Light warming alcohol. Complex and sweet, really enjoyable batch.

Fles gedronken tijdens proeverijtje met Tomhendriksen, Benzai, Roelzie en Keukeman. Robijnrood bier, licht troebel zonder schuim. Weinig aroma. Smaak van wijn komt nog licht door. Smaak is snel weg.

Corked bottle. Dark amber color. Vinous oaky aroma with marzipan. Malty sweet alcoholic flavor. Oaky with warm vinous and bourbon notes. Once again the oak aging adds complexity to this beer,

Bottle, large sample. Hazy copper color, just some lacing. Aroma is a bit spicy, caramel, raisin, lots of red wine, oak wood. Bit sweet in taste, tannine bitterness, loads of red wine. Red wine blends quite nicely with the La Trappe Quad, and even is a bit dominant. Tasty.

22/XII/15 - 37.5cl bottle from Geers, Hopduvel or the monastery shop @ Tim's Amazing La Trappe Oak Aged Series Batch 2 Through 13 Tasting - BB: n/a, blended: 14/XII/2011 (2015-1761)

Note: after hoarding the oldest of these beers for over 5 years, I decided to crack down on them, before they disintegrate.
Clear red brown beer, no head. Aroma: bit malty, sweet, caramel, bit of vanilla, banana, alcohol. MF: soft to no carbon, medium to full body. Taste: sourish start, some tannins, alcohol, sour apples, sugary, pears, fruity. Aftertaste: little bitter, sourish, alcohol, some tannins, red wine notes, sweet and sugary, bit cloying, banana.

37.5 cl cork and caged bottle: a gift from Rudy in De Bierboom, Brugge some years ago. Poured into a Westmalle chalice at home on 24th Sep 2014, the sediment and remains were dispensed into a 2006 ZBF tasting glass for examination and tasting later. Very little covering on top of the pour, just a wisp and collar, the actual beer was almost hazy and a dark brown colour with a red hue. The nose and taste however make up for the lack of ’looks’ the beer has. Wine esters with rich oak like aromas reach far into your senses, both the smell and mouth seem to blend into one luscious tasting brew, this is another winner in my eyes. Smooth, deep and rich body flavours, a true masterpiece of brewing and aging. Port and wine like in it’s aging, but still keeping it’s beer base and baring. Batch 3 still wins overall in my ratings, but this is very close in all aspects bar the head.

Bottle - Dark sugar, Toffee, cherry, plum and oak. Cloudy brown with almost no head. Dark sugar, raisin, alcohol and plum. Nice, but not nearly as rich and a the tannins stronger than the others.
