(Bottle, 10 Sep 2019) Dark brown colour with frothy, beige head. Malty nose with chocolate, black rye bread, liquorice, caramel, toffee, dried fruit, raisins and Christmas fruit cake. Malty taste with notes of chocolate, caramel, dark bread, coffee, dried fruit, figs, toffee, a touch of yeast and a mild spicy bitterness in the finish. Medium body, with a touch of sweetness. Tasty and well balanced. Leaning in the Belgian direction. Nice one.

Bottle at home. Two year old. The colour is very deep reddish brown with a beige head. Aroma of smoke, rubber, raisins, wood, leather and pine. Subtle coffee and chocolate, but also hint of fruity tones. The flavour is more roasted with ash, coffee, smoke, weeds and pine. Has a slick and soft mouth feel, full-bodied and a light to medium bitterness. Well balanced and tasteful. Nice mix of a dark Belgian ale and roasted ale with hoppy undertones.

330 ml bottle, from Vinmonopolet, Nettbutikken. ABV is 8.5%. Very dark brown colour, nearly black. Small beige head. Nice aroma of dark malts, brown sugar, chocolate and fruity hops, some vinous notes. The flavour is moderately sweet (not too much) with roast malts, chocolate, mild coffee, some fruit and vinous notes, and fairly distinct bittering hops in the finish.

Bottled. Roasted malts with some slight ripe fruits, liquorice, caramel and mild toffeeish notes. Flavour is toffee, some ripe fruity notes along with roasted malts and some slight yeasty notes as well. Lingering bitterness in the finish.

Bottle 33 cl. Pours a hazy, nutty brown with a lacing, beige head. Sweet toffee and brown sugar aroma, nutty. Rich, malty body, heavy on the sugars but with just enough balancing hops to avaoid this from ever getting cloying. Warming finish. I don’t get any belgian yeast in this at all, it rather feels like an English Strong Ale, Wee Heavy or whatever - no smokiness though. Nice and very robust. 020316

330ml bottle from Vinmonopolet Bestillingsutvalget. Shared with Finn. Pours a bubbly fawn coloured head leaving crocheted lacing on the glass. Cloudy red-brown aroma. Smell of forest, brown malts and brown sugar. Rather rich taste profile of stewed fruit, caramel and earth with enough roasted bitterness to the ending to keep the sweetness at bay. Fine bodied. Fits the season very well (Tromsø 08.02.2016).
