Nice deep brown coloured body with a light tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee and some peanuts. Light to Medium-bodied; Strong malty flavours and a good nuttiness throughout. Aftertaste shows more of the same - nothing of a breakthrough, but good to try. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Norm’s in Vienna, Virginia on 31 December 2006.

Bottle. Pours a dark amber with a medium light tan frothy head. The aroma is a roasted malt with coffee and caramel. The taste is a sweet malt with raisin and brown sugar. Good lacing on the glass. A good english strong ale from Flying Dog.

Bottle 35,5 cl. Almost clear amber golden with an off-white head. Spicy aroma with a whiff of nuts and alcohol. Medium body with dry caramel accents and an edge of overripe fruit. Distinct bitterness in the finish. A pleasant Christmas beer which isn’t overly sweet or spicy. 271208

12oz bottle. Filtered brown amber color, nice fresh foamy head. Sweet hop and spice aroma. The taste is heavily spiced, but I have trouble putting my finger on what it is exactly...nutmeg? cinnamon? both? Like mjs below me said, it a little unpleasant. Not horrible by any means, but not up to par either for a Winter beer. Maybe it’s just not for me.

(Bottle at Hilpeä Hauki, Helsinki, on 2008-12-20) Deep amber. Clear. Medium sized quickly disappearing white head. Malts and hops in nose. Full bodied and dryish palate with little carbonation. Malts, liquorice, bitterness, sweetness, hint of grass, some vegetables, hint of toffee and some roastedness in taste. Bitter and hoppy aftertaste. I found this beer a little bit unpleasant.

12oz bottle from VinensVerden, Odense. Pours clear copper/amber with a creamy small head on top. Nose is malty caramel/toffee - mostly sweet & inviting. Medium bodied. Taste has some dry bitterness which compliments the dark fruits & chewy maltyness well. Very drinkable!
