Stone jug with swing top. Dark brown color. Caramel and molasses in the aroma. Caramelly sweet flavor with tobacco, nutty. A soft bitterness in the finish. Decent.

Full glass from tap. Dark brown with tan head. Sweet roasted malts, chocolate, spices, figs, dark dried fruit, anise, laurel, licorice, alcohol, gumball coating, rubber, molasses. Big sweet and bitter, strong alcoholic pucker. Full body, heavy feel, low carbonation. Misses typical stout roastedness. I’d file it under Belgian Strong Ale. Has some leathery and rubbery alcoholic notes that are slightly offputting. --- Beer merged from original tick of Winterbier on 07 Jan 2019 at 11:31 - Score: 6

Bottle. Dark pour. Aroma of raisin, prunes and caramelised malt. Sweet taste of caramel, chocolate, ripe fruit, prunes and mild licorice. Not bad.

Tap at the Gouda Winterbier fest, 2014. Poured a clear dark brown with a frothy light tan head and some broken lace. The aroma is light malt yeast and red berry fruit. The flavour is medium bitter with a rather odd light watery yeast palate. Medium bodied with average carbonation.

Draft sampled at Gouda Winterbier Festival. Pours dark brown with a small tan head. Aroma of malt and caramel. Flavour is over moderate sweet and bitter. Some raisin and overripe dark fruit in the palate. Medium bodied with soft carbonation.

Sampled @ PWBF Gouda 2014. Dark brown color, small beige to light brown color. Smell and taste malts, sweetness, lots of herbs and spices. Don’t like it. Too herbal and / or spicy for me.

Black beer with a clear red hue, beige head. Aroma of liquorice (drop), lots of it! Other spicy notes, caramel, malty background. Sweet malty flavour, caramel, light salty tone, salmiak (salty liquorice, ammonium chloride). Oily texture, finish big on salmiak.

On tap at WBF ’09 Gouda. Deep dark brown to black colour, creamy tan head. Aroma of roasted malts, caramel and laurel. Flavour is smooth, roasted malts, laurel, liquorice, a slight coffee flavour. Nicely balanced brew.
