Dark brown with a small beige head. Aroma of roasted malts and dark fruits. Flavour is medium to heavy sweetness, but not too sweet. Unfortunately, I did not pick up any of the promised smoke notes. More like an Abt/Quadrupel than a Barley Wine. Very nice.

Bottle. dark brown color. Malt, ontbijtkoek, raisin and only faint hints of smoke in the aroma. Malty sweet flavor with ontbijtkoek, rye bread, hints of caramel and the faintest hint of smoke. Alcoholic. I would have expected more smoke.

Thank you for sharing people! Sampled bottled @ “Gouda Winterbier Festival 2016”. Dark red amber with no head. Nose is dull umami oily herbal sweetness. Taste is watery, herbal, dull sugary, oily, umami, light soy sauce, sweet,… Whatever smoke is in here just translates into umami & herbal notes for me. Watery & oily say sauce body. Not a big hit for me.

From bottle at Winterbierfestival Gouda 2016. Hazy, brownish amber with a thin, frothy, tan head. Sweetish-malty, slightly smoky aroma of caramel, brown sugar, nuts and some smoke. Sweetish-malty, slightly smoky taste of caramel, brown sugar, nuts and some peat, followed by a medium long, slightly peaty, boozy finish. Medium to full body, creamy mouthfeel, flat. Very nice!
