On tap at the brewery. Pours black. Wood, chocolate, toast, coffee, bit of fruitiness, lots of wood. Full body. Nice but the oak is perhaps a touch overdone.

Bottle. Very dark brown with a tan head that fades to a coat. Aroma of roasted malt, licorice, earth, vanilla, red wine. Moderate sweetness with chocolate, vanilla, licorice. Some bitterness, quite a bit oak, not as vinous as suggested by the aroma. Lacks a bit of a bottom end, but complex and harmonious.

From a 500ml bottle on 17/9/2015. Pours a deep brown with a small head. The nose is very oaky, with some red wine and a bit of chocolate. Taste wise, the chocolate dominates, with some dark fruit and sharpish vinous and oak notes presenting in the background. The palate is slick and the carbonation soft. A pretty good Baltic porter.

From bottle. Pours black with heavy head. A few spices on nose but surprisingly lacking in punch. Flavour similarly underwhelming. Too thin and with little of the oaky or whisky notes coming through at all. Retasted at warmer temperature and it still lacks oomph.

(Bottle) Black with a slight tan head. Nice complex aroma - coffee, oak, vanilla. Great mouthfeel - medium body with a hint of stickiness and nice bright carbonation. Excellent taste, rich, dark, sweet and complex. There’s a lot going on, including toasty dark malt, coffee, oak, vanilla, some gentle sweetness. Very good.
