Bottle. Amongst the bewildering array of novelty Bacchus beers I try to choose one that’s plain to see what they can actually do. And get this: black, heavily spiced, not clearly made by Bacchus. Effort. Black with a tan head that fades rapidly. Aroma of licorice, anise, ginger, medicinal herbs. Um. Things get better. Light bodied, moderate carbonation. The herbal and spice things are there but they don’t dominate: there’s a nice husky/ toasty maltiness and a little bitterness too. Shame it smells like hippy cough medicine.
