The Huvila X-Porter has a deep black appearance with a brown head. Creamy, slightly nutty, smooth chocolate malt nose. The taste is similar to its nose but also allows the taste of toffee to come through. The after taste then turns more chocolate with toffee. This is a rarity as not many top-fermented Baltic Porters are made any more. Our “hero” at the San Diego Int’l Beer Festival 2010! It is available on tap and in bottles in bars and restaurants across Finland. Since 2011, Huvila X-Porter is also available in shops in Estonia through Drink Baar. Last, but not least, Huvila X-Porter is also imported into the US through Shelton Brothers. Name has since changed to Malmgård X-Porter.

A colabrown beer with a medium and beige head. The nose is very nice, lots of dark chocolate, roastiness, coffee and hint of refreshning fruitness. Taste is quite simple, mainly smooth and roasted, black coffee, dark chocolate, hint of fruits and some herbal hoppyness. Medium+ bodied, smooth and easy to drink. The nice aroma leads into enjoyable and balanced taste with an easy drinkability, a high-quality beer.

50 cl bottle @ home, BBE 16.07.2013
Aroma has chocolate, some licorice and roastiness. Flavour is nice and slightly sweet with chocolate, licorice. Dry finish with some coffee. Palate feels slightly watery, but that doesn’t disturb much. One of the best finnish beers.

RBESG August 2011, grand tasting. Black with a firm and lasting off-white head. Aroma of licorice and ash, and hard roasted malt. Sweet licorice and roasted flavour with an ashy finish. Too much on the burned side for my taste

Blanchard’s, Allston 500ml ($6): Pours a black with a big fluffy head. Aroma is of roasted malts, chocolate, and some hops. Taste is plenty bitter enough from both the roasted malts and also from the ample hopping. The body is pretty light and all that, which is kind of the point. Not uch sweetness compared to a variety of other Baltic Porters. Pretty good, but nothing all that special.

Bottle @ home. Deep black appearance with a brown head. Creamy, slightly nutty, smooth chocolate malty nose. Creamy chocolate, slightly nutty, somewhat roasty, a bit toffee-like flavor. Chocolate, light toffee aftertaste. Awesome brew. I’ve been looking forward to tasting a new Baltic Porter for a while. Recommended.
