The Huvila X-Porter has a deep black appearance with a brown head. Creamy, slightly nutty, smooth chocolate malt nose. The taste is similar to its nose but also allows the taste of toffee to come through. The after taste then turns more chocolate with toffee. This is a rarity as not many top-fermented Baltic Porters are made any more. Our “hero” at the San Diego Int’l Beer Festival 2010! It is available on tap and in bottles in bars and restaurants across Finland. Since 2011, Huvila X-Porter is also available in shops in Estonia through Drink Baar. Last, but not least, Huvila X-Porter is also imported into the US through Shelton Brothers. Name has since changed to Malmgård X-Porter.

22 oz bottle from Blanchard’s in Allston, MA. Cost $5.95. Poured into an English Pint glass. Deep brown, nearly black. Thin, bubbly, beige head, with some decent retention. Nose shows caramelized sugar, prunes and malt. Taste has a large amount of raisins and prunes up front, with light chocolate and light hop presence in the back end of the sip. The mouthfeel is a bit thin. It is nicely balanced between the sweetness and light bitterness .And the ABV is hidden well. However, I’m not really feeling this. Don’t get me wrong... it’s good, maybe just too much prune and raisins for me.

Bottled at Drink Bar, Tallinn. Very black, small head. Licorice and tar aroma. Sweet and full bodied with dense mouthfeel. Lots of dark chocolate, some tobacco. Salty tarry finish. I prefer the lighter, more drinkable version.

Half of this well made house porter at St. Urhos pub in Helsinki. Fragile lacing from a low, tan coloured head. Deep dark, with russet highlights. Attractive aromas of sweet, partly roasted, dark malts. Fine blended taste of brown and black malts supported by a dark fruity touch. Bittersweet tail. Velvetly smooth on the swallow. Enjoyable stuff (Sunday pub crawl with Matti, 06.02.2011).

Pours black into an English pint. Mocha head with excellent retention recedes leaving sheet lacing to coat surface. Sour apple and chocolate aromas. Tart apple from front to back. Some chocolate covered lemons in the lasting finish. Dissapointed.

Dean Swift - RBESG Tasting. Opaque black beer, good frothy pale tan head. Light palate. A little dry. Mild dark malts with a trace of roasty burn. Frothy minerally semi dry finish. A bit one dimensional.

Bottled. A deep red beer with a huge dark brown head. The aroma has notes of malt, caramel, and roasted grain. The flavor is sweet with notes of smoke, roasted malt, and alcohol, as well as lighter notes of wood, leading to a dry roasted finish. Thanks Papsoe for sharing.
