Bottled. A red-brown beer with a thin tan head. The aroma has notes of alcohol, roasted malt, wood, and caramel. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt, alcohol, caramel, roasted malt, and wood, leading to a dry roasted finisih.

Bottle. Clear darkish brown with a modest beige head. Aroma of toffee, some berries, chocolate, spices, some melted plastic. Sweet toffee, chocolate, dried fruit - nothing spectacular but fine. There’s no real depth or intensity to the malt side of things (for 6.5%!) and it feels rather dead in the mouth... But then the finish is rather harsh - woody bitterness and it’s acridly astringent. Odd burnt plastic-y spices. Really wasn’t enjoying this, but got a few slices of a fatty sausage and it nearly works.

From a 500ml bottle on 23/7/2013. Pours a a clear dark amber with a big head. Has a decent, if relatively subdued aroma of chocolate and caramel, some fridge-like notes. There’s more chocolate and caramel in the flavour, along with a touch of cola and some woodiness. Finishes with a quite pronounced dry, roasty bitterness. The texture is a touch thin and the carbonation medium. This is a bit of a mixed bag, but enjoyable enough.

Golden-brown, thin head, toasty-crackery aroma. Toasty palate, moderate bitterness, accents of burnt fruit. Ok, finishes quite woody.

A beautiful head, a dark body and a thick, creamy mouthfeel. What’s not to love? The aroma’s malt, coffee, apple and lemon in the aroma and a slightly more alcoholic taste in the mouth. There’s only one drawback, but it’s a significant one - a persistent metallic aftertaste.
