Pours black with a large head.Nose shows roasted malt, piny and resinous hops, bready malt, honey and grainy notes. Nice!Lots of roasted malt as a flavour, with nutty, toasty and bready characters too. Some earthy resinous hops but they’re not bold.Nice moderate-high carbonation works well.Very enjoyable stuff.

Bottle, 10C. Almost black with a light tan head that fades to less than a coat. Aroma is floral and earthy with some citrus, mocha, licorice and some molasses lurk underneath. Dark sugar sweetness and coffee are more upfront in the taste, with citrus and pine as accents. Dry finish with moderate bitterness, lingering pine. Very nice, but again I wonder whether I’m a bit late on this one.

The latest combo special from Yeastie Boys and Liberty Brewing looks so good in the glass I should take a picture - almost pitch black with a creamy head that lasts to the bottom. There’s a load of malt on the nose, predominantly chocolate and coffee with some light citrus and floral notes over the top. The hops are more dominant in the mouth, particularly on the tip of the tongue, where you get a nice citrus tingle. The malt and chocolate are also well represented, and you get just a hint of tobacco. It has a lovely, creamy palate and an impressive length. Perhaps not God’s greatest black IPA, but a very, very nice beer (squealer from Prince Wine Store, Essendon).
