Sampled on draft at Smokin’ Joe’s in Pittsburgh PA this beer poured a black color with a medium sized creamy brown head that lingered and produced great lacing. The aroma was bourbon, brown sugar and light raising with a boozy presence that detracted. The flavor was bitter and woody with notes of port wine, bourbon, faint vanilla, cocoa and a touch of sweet malts. The finish was long, bitter, woody and a bit fruity. Smooth and full body. Solid but nothing special.

Hand bottle thanks to exiled. Pours with a small tan head over a deep brown body. Aroma of dark fruits, alcohol, wood, tannins and chocolate. Taste is tobacco, barrel, ash, alcohol and chocolate. Medium bubbles. Well done.

Tap at RFD. Very dark reddish brown, medium tan head, solid lacing - who says a BA can’t have a head?. Aroma of Irish coffee. Taste is too heavy on the whiskey, not enough on the beer.

Sampled at Max’s in Baltimore. Pours a lightly watery, opaque black with one ring of beige head. Aroma is a mix of coffee and wood, vanilla, bourbon, brown sugar, sweet. Flavor is sweet, chocolatey, vanilla bean, malty, toasted breads, a lick of bourbon and wood. Very well balanced. Finish is full bodied but smooth, sweet and sticky on the end.

Passar bäst till: On it’s own Förslag på öltyp: Porter Förslag på liknande öl: Bollox!

Bottle from Kris Wines, London, drunk at Mum’s. Can’t knock anything Raplh Steadman, and this is a good lookin label and a tasty brew to boot. Pretty much black colour with a wee beige head. Woody aroma with notes of nuts, booze and dark chocolate. Full-bodied,smooth, thick and oily. Some well placed hoppiness lurking. Digging the bourbon notes big style. Warming with a lovely balance. Very good stuff indeed.

Bottle, at Esbjerg Beerfestival. A black beer with a minimal-sized tan head. Alcohol, burnt malts, some licorice and tar, coffee and hints of bourbon on the nose. Surprisingly smooth, nothing really dominating. The same goes for the flavor, which is maybe a bit sticky-sweet. Roasted malts, oak, some tar, coffee, burnt malts and a little bourbon. Full-bodied and warming and very smooth. Warming and roasted bitter finish. A beer that you don’t drink pints and pints of, but enjoy slowly in your favorite chair. 091022

Bottle (Thanks Svesse) - Very dark brown, almost black, with a tan head. Chocolate and coffee feature in the slightly vinous aroma. Roasted taste with plain chocolate, coffee and marzipan, followed by a roasted bitterness.
