Bottle @ Uni bar, Århus. Pours black with a huge tan head. Aroma of bourbon, vanilla, chocolate, oak. Taste is dried dark fruit, raisins, bourbon, light sweet chocolate and vanilla notes, sadly the oak is abit to strong and dominat. Medium body, rather high carbonation for a BA beer, abit of a alchoholic finish. Good beer, aroma is great, but sadly the oak is abit to overpowering in the flavor. 070511

Black with a beige head. Aroma is roasted malt, burnt malt, coffee, dark chocolate and vanilla. Flavor is quite sweet and rather bitter. Dry and roasted bitter finish. I had this side by side with the regular version. Brilliant. I believe this was my first barrel-aged Impy of any kind. 150909

Definitely stout/porter-like in appearance apart from the lack of head. The nose resembles prunes in alchohol and there is a very evident toasty/oak edge to it with some smoke. Burnt wood and stewed plummy taste. Huge structure with creamy texture and persistent length though it is very rough round the edges. Perhaps this will become better integrated with time.

Bottle. Pours a near clear very dark brown with a dark brown head that lasted throughout the beer. Aroma has lots of sweet grains with some whiskey and a bit of milk chocolate. Flavor is similar with milk chocolate with a sweet grain and a backing whiskey note that rounds out the beer. The beer is nice and smooth.

12 oz bottle. Pours black with a light tan head. Aroma is strong, with oak, whiskey, cocoa, molasses, and vanilla. Flavor is quite roasty and ashen with cocoa, oak, whiskey, and coffee flavors, a bit of soy sauce. Smoke lingers for a while. I thought the regular Gonzo was just good, not great, but this is top-notch.

4oz sample @ Churchkey, DC. pours pitch black, light tan/mocha head. aroma, lots of barrel, bourbon goodness, chocolate malts. thick malty, deep roast palate with medium vanilla, lots and lots of awesome bourbon though at times it might bit a tad too forward. Overall profile has a nice warming boozy finish with the vanilla-chocolate blending nicely with the barrel.

(Bottle) Black colour with lasting, frothy, beige head. Roasted, malty nose with lots of dark chocolate, black coffee, liquorice and a touch of vanilla. Roasted, malty taste with notes of black coffee, dark chocolate, cocoa, liquorice, dried fruit, vanilla and a touch of bourbon. Full body, smooth and rounded mouthfeel. Fairly sweet. The wood character is well integrated and doesn’t stand out too much. Balanced bitterness. Well balanced, tasty and very nice.
