Traditionally, Imperial Stouts, the biggest and boldest of all stouts, were brewed with massive amounts of roasted malts and hops, resulting in a velvety smooth but robust beer characterized by high alcohol content and extremely high hop bitterness. Meeting the challenge of this aggressive, challenging beer style, Great Divide's Yeti Imperial Stout is an onslaught of the senses. An almost viscous, inky-black brew, Yeti opens with a massive, roasty, chocolate, coffee malt flavor that eventually gives way to rich toffee and burnt caramel notes. Packed with an enormous quantity of American hops, Yeti's hop profile reveals a slightly citrusy, piney, and wonderfully dry hoppy finish.

Tight rocky light brown head left a good froth on a thick black still body. Malt, iron & liquorice aroma. Medium bodied, fluffy over the tongue with dry cloying back. Heavy malt, bitter, liquorice, caramel & espresso tastes with tangy hoppy finish. It's.a good one!

Pours a black colour without any highlights. The head is huge, creamy, bubbly, frothy, mocha-coloured with excellent, everlasting retention and creamy lacing. Roasted malt aromas with some chocolate, vanilla and coffee notes. The taste is bitter with dark chocolate, burnt malts and grassy hops. The mouthfeel is slick, wet, but with a little dryness in the finish. Alcohol is well-hidden in the hoppiness. Quite a nice hoppy, bitter, Imperial Stout.

Great divide yeti. Pours pitch black with a medium dark brown head. Aromas of cocoa, milk chocolate, dark fruits, some roasted malt, slight licorice, some light skunky hops. Taste is very chocolate forward, lots of cocoa, milk chocolate, some darker roasty notes, skunky hops, lots of licorice in the finish as it warms up. Very nice!

Draft at LATEOTU. Black with huge fluffy beige head. Roasty aroma. Taste brings huge bitterness. Nothing out of the ordinary but an excellent example of the style.

Review based on the BJCP2015 (style 20C). Can 35.5 cl (batch unknown - BBF unknown - Canned on 11.FEB.2019). AROMA: medium roasted aroma with complex notes (dark chocolate, slight coffee, slight maillard, biscuit). low fruity background notes (dried grapes-like). medium-low complementary alcohol presence with a vinous aspect. APPEARANCE: very dark brown color without highlights. opaque. medium to medium-large brown head, mousse-like, with good retention. leg formation. TASTE: initial medium-low specialty malt notes (maillard, biscuit, slight coffee), followed by a medium-high to high roasted malt presence. faint alcohol note (vinous) and dried grapes. medium-high to high bitterness with a roasty and bitterness finish. PALATE: medium-high to high body with medium carbonation. OVERALL: a traditional american imperial stout with a lot of complexity on the aroma and a strong roasty presence on the palate.

Bottle at Euston Tap. Very dark brown and pours very thick with a dark gold/brown head. Aroma is a bit savoury, lots of grain, soy sauce, bit of mushroom (!), dark chocolate, vanilla, roasty or maybe burnt maltiness. Taste is coffee bitter, dark chocolate. Creamy and thick, with a touch of sweetness but nice and bitter. Lots of warming booze. Dry, crisp and bitter finish. Very nice.

Bottle. Almost opague, dark head. Licorice and mango in the aroma. Sweet and full bodied. Licorice and roastflavor, immediately followed by loads of fresh earthy and flowery hops. Citrus in the far background. There is a difference in character between the oak aged and the "plain" version. The oak version is perhaps more complex, the "plain" version has more hop caharacter and a more pronounced aroma. The quality in both cases is outstanding.
