It’s main distinction is that it’s the first Murray’s beer I haven’t liked. The aromas of malted milk, mocha and coffee are promising, but the aftertaste is dominated by an unpleasant astringency and even a slight metallic taste. There are flavours of chocolate, milk and coffee on the front of the palate but really nothing but that horrible aftertaste remains for me. Make it stop.

On tap at Murray's, pours a deep dark reddish brown with a small beige head. Aroma brings out toasted malt and dry cocoa powder. Flavour is laid back, with lots of toasted malt and dry bitter cocoa powder. Dry finish. Light-bodied and rather weak, but pleasant.

Pours a muddy dark brown with nearly no head. Nice roast malt aroma with chocolate, and a bit of caramel. Thin, harshly bitter body. Flavor is cocoa, medium caramel malt, a bit of roasted malt, the faintest amount of coffee. This one was disappointing. Has a pretty decent aroma but the flavor does’t match up. It’s a fairly ugly looking beer and the body does not help the brew. It isn’t bad but it’s not something I would get again.

Sorry, in Finnish this time: Miltei musta, todella runsaasti vaahtoava olut. Vaahtoa jää reiluhko kerros pitkäksi aikaa oluen pinnalle ja myös pitsiä jää runsaasti. Tuoksu tumman maltainen, suklainen ja hieman ruisleipäinen. Maku makean maltainen, suklainen, lakritsainen, aavistuksen kahvinen ja melko pitkä tumman vivahteikas jälkimaku on toimiva. Todella onnistunut kokonaisuus näillä prosenteilla.

Dark brown, thin head. Roasty, chocolatey aroma. Similar palate, moderate bitterness and complexity but these are good balanced flavours, so this is a very enjoyable pint.

Draught as part of a tasting paddle at Rubber Duckie Taphouse, Sydney, on July 14, 2013.Malty, cocoa, roasted taste. Medium to fizzy mouthfeel, medium bready bitterness. Roasted, malty aftertaste. Clear very dark brown to black color, tan head. Roasted, coffee scent.

On tap at Murrays, Manly March 2012. Dark brown with a tight, off-white head. Sweetish, milk chocolate, a hint of truffle and coffee, leading to a dryish finish. Very good.

(draught) Very dark with decent tan head. Aroma is coffee and roasted almost smokey. Medium body, light carbonation. Flavour is pretty much regular porter. Overall a good beer for its style.
