7th Feb 2015: Brugge Beer Festival. Blond brew with a white topping. Mixed bag in the nose and taste, spicy, yeasty, malty and citrusy all rolled into one happy blend of aromas and flavours. Decent and unbalanced, but in a nice way!

Hazy blond colour, white rocky foam. Medium carbonation. Malty, notes of citrus. Grassy, light tart hints. Drinkable, ok.

Newish Eutropius beer tasted when it was still simply called Oscar without the ’Blond’ (i.e. before the advent of its brown counterpart). Thick, very dense and moussy, lacing, egg white head and deep and warm orangey ’old gold’ colour, clear with quiet sparkling. Aroma strikingly reminiscent of abbey cheese, further impressions of soap, grass, biscuit, cooked potato, white wine, raw cauliflower, apple peel, mango (probably the secret American hop variety), yoghurt, rose petals, nougat, chamomille, powder sugar, dough; there is something unusual about it too, I guess the added secret spice - my bet is on sweet gale (as in Gageleer)? Fruity onset, a bit restrained but sweet and appetizing, apple, pineapple and some hints of banana, minerally carbo, very vague salty touch, some citrus acidity too, dryish, yeasty, pale malt sweetness, creamy and rounded, retronasally that mysterious spice again (and I stick to my sweet gale hypothesis), leading to a dry yeast and hops finish, grassy, leafy but less ’American’ and citrussy than I had hoped, quite long, with some solvents and wodka-like alcohol. My best Eutropius experience so far, honest and quenching; this is far from bad, though the alcohol could have been better hidden and honestly, there are a lot of contenders in this particular ’Belgian blond’ style. Still: enjoyable alright.

Bottle shared. Pours light murky golden with a white head. Aroma of citrus, light grassy hops, yeast and light herbs. Flavour is moderate sweet and over moderate bitter. Slightly strange medicinal taste cing out but not bad otherwise. Medium bodied with light to moderate carbonation.

Bottle. Hazy hay yellow liquid with medium to big white head. Aroma of grain, banana, vanilla, smoke and metal. Taste is light to medium sweet and light bitter with notes of smoke, metal and clove. Really phenolic. Medium bodied with medium to high carbonation. Pretty bad.

Bottle Pours deep, fuzzy blonde Good white head Smell is a very different, flower-aroma . Good carbonation . Very different taste . I get the hops, in a low amount ( its no IPA ) They give a perfumed idea , some floral aspects, some bitterness . No brett, but a brett-reminding kind of funky taste . Some aspects ( earth comes to mind, but doesn´t cover it ) I cant really describe . Aftertaste is bitter, and very clear One of those beers that look simple, but are surprisingly complex. One of those beers where a ticker-portion won´t be enough to understand the complexity this beer gives . Its better than average, plus it deserves some bonus points for the complexity . Nice one ! Re-rate, had it again @ ZBF 15. Thnx for sharing, geeks! Small portion now, and rated it 3,5/5. Won’t change my original score, since this only proves the point I had before - a beer you need to drink more off to understand it.
