A lightly hazed dark reddish brown ale with a thin moka head. A lovely sweet vinous caramel aroma, light molasses, maple and licorice. In mouth, an oily licorice malt with warming alcohol, British hops, fusel wood, a nice winter warmer for sure. On tap at brewpub, May 23 2010.

Pours on tap at the brewpub almost murky mahogany with micro thin white head. The modest aroma is sweet with malts, dark fruitiness and a bit of molasses to go along with chocolate and faint tobacco earthiness. The taste seems full and rich. The flavor starts with slick sweetness that moves into prune, ripe cherry and fig dark fruity sweetness. By midway chocolate and roasty malts join in to add balance to the sweetness. As the finish approaches an unmistakable earthiness murmurs to the surface with notes of tobacco and earth mixing with a pulse of caramel. At the finish more roastiness is noticed and adds further balance to the flavor as the after taste commences. Lots of layers of flavor giving it plenty of interest. I was told they only brewed or yielded about 4 barrels. So this isn’t expected to last. I think six months may blend the fruity esters together and meld them into the malty sweetness to create a very nice brew. I hope they’ve held some back so I can find out. Best Florida brewed Wee Heavy I’ve had by far.
