The original ale first brewed in 1965 and now sold all over the world. Perhaps the most distinctive Scottish ale on the market and with its rich dark oakiness, this is a serious winter ale.

Pours a deep but still clear brown, with amber hints if seen through light. Low-sized off-white head shows good enough retention and lacing. Soft-sweet, not very intense aroma of caramel and dried/red fruits, with some oak hints. Taste shows a caramel malts base, with some hints of chocolate; dried/red fruits as per aroma; a delicate underlying oak and liquorish feel. Highly sweet but definitely not over the top. Overall delicate but surely well crafted. Medium bodied with low to medium, delicate carbonation, resulting in a semi soft, semi smooth feel. A well made scotch.

Bottle at Mason and Taylor. Red brown coloured and quite see through. Aroma is very confusing. Earthy/mossy and malty. Bit oak boozy barrel too. Taste is very nice. Very smooth, even velvetty. Bit herby. Medium bodied. Cracking beer. --- Beer merged from original tick of Ale on 09 Sep 2019 at 16:06 - Score: Appearance - 6 | Aroma - 8 | Flavor - 8 | Texture - 8 | Overall - 8. Bought in 1985 and hidden in my cellar all those years. Alc % on the label: 6%. Overwhelming porto aroma. Carbonation has almost disappeared. Porto taste with blackcurrant, raisins and pure chocolate. A bit metallic and buttery aftertaste. A very special beer that has survived 17 years of storage under less than ideal circumstances well.

The Aromas are lots of dark malt, tree bark, a little dark ripe fruit and a hint of Peat. Flavors are like nose, sweet up front but with good carbonation and a little bitter to balance. This smoke seems to be a little milder than it was in years past and it was never very prominent to begin with. Great balanced Scotch ale.

Flaska från SB. Vintage 2015. Rostfärgad brun med ljusbeige krona. Mörk torkad frukt, muscovadosocker, torra rostade toner, maltsötma. Lite tunn/uttunnad i kroppen. Ganska rak och enkelspårig, men så är det också deras house ale. Föredrar deras Jacobite.

330ml bottle. Clear, chestnut colour with ruby glimmer and small to average, frothy to creamy, half-way lasting, minimally lacing, off-white head. Sweet-ish caramel and slightly nuttily, toasty malty as well as fruity aroma, hints of dried fruit, raisin, plum, black cherry. Taste is slightly dry, toasty and nutty, minimally smoky malty and fruity, notes of dried fruit, plum, raisin, black cherry; increasing sweetness with an additional floral touch of honey.
