Dick’s Lava Rock Porter is a dark and rich beer with a plethora of deep, malty flavors.
Copious amounts of caramel, chocolate and black malts are added to the mash along with enough Magnum hops to balance the malty wort. We then add two additions of Mt. Hood hops for a generous hop flavor and great aroma. The Porter is dark brown, almost black in color, with lots of body and smooth drinkability.

Deep brown with minimal head. Light roasted malts, some molasses, chocolate, some berries in the aroma. Mouth is a bit thin and watery. Flavor has some light roasted notes, a bit malty, light chocolate, with a lightly sour finish. Decent, but the flavor doesn’t live up to the aroma.

Draught @ the brewpub. Pours a dark brown almost black color with a small off-white head. Has a roasted malty chocoalte aroma. Roasted malty chocolate and coffee flavor with some hints of hops. Has a roasted malty chocolate finish with some hoppy hints and a slightly bitter aftertaste.

Pours clear dark brown to amber-ish with thin off white head. The aroma is sweet with roasty malts and then some mild burnt malts. The taste begins with faint malt astringency followed quickly by muted roasted malts and a mild level of burnt malts. Decent sessionable brew. The after taste lingers with mild burnt ashy malts.

Dark brown. Inch thick head. Big roasty, chocolatey and massively hoppy nose. Smooth chocolate and grapefruit character. Nice full malty body. Robust, quality.

At Bailey’s Taproom, Portland. A dark brown with a thin brown beer. The aroma is sweet malty with notes of nuts. The flavor is sweet with notes of nuts, grain, caraemel, toffee, and brown sugar, leading to a dry bitter finish.

Aroma of roasted malt, coffee and chocolate. Opaque brown color with mahogany hilites (using halogen). Off-white head minimized rapidly leaving pinpoints and tatters of lace. Medium bodied; moderate carbonation. Starts with hints of sour, chocolate and roasted malt. Could be creamy, but there’s a tart, toasted character that indicates otherwise. There are some complicated flavors, and after awhile one could be anise. Certainly finishes dry, and it is very interesting.

Bottle. Dark brown with big lasting beige head. Amoma of cocoa and malt. Malty flavour, notes or toffee, coffee and chocolate. Malty finish with balanced hoppy bite. I would definitely drink this again.

Bottle: Pours a lighter than expected (for a porter) brown with a large beige head. Sticky lacing. Nose of malt and roastiness, hint of cocoa. Taste is more of roasted malt with hints of coffee and cocoa. Little bitterness in the tail. A little light in the body.

Bottle pours a deep black and has the aroma of choclately dark malty note. Flavors are a dark roast malt and some coffee and bitter sweet chocolate. Feel is a bit thin. The carbonation is lively and the trailer is a slightly bitter smokey flavor. Like a dry Stout.
