Dick’s Lava Rock Porter is a dark and rich beer with a plethora of deep, malty flavors.
Copious amounts of caramel, chocolate and black malts are added to the mash along with enough Magnum hops to balance the malty wort. We then add two additions of Mt. Hood hops for a generous hop flavor and great aroma. The Porter is dark brown, almost black in color, with lots of body and smooth drinkability.

Bottle: Deep brown ....see-throu when backlit, small tan head. Aroma of melted chocolate and cocoa. Taste is slightly lactic, roasty dark chocolate malt. A bit of earthy bittering. Pretty nice, overall.

Bottle. Sour milk, chocolate malt, and dry hay aroma. Dark chestnut brown with small tan head. Mildly sweet chocolate malt and mildly bitter hay flavor. Good body. Pretty good.

On tap at Dick's, pours a deep dark reddish brown with a small tan head. Aroma and flavour of toasted malt and a touch of cocoa powder. Not very interesting. Decent.

This Porter is a dark brown, nearly black color with a medium beige head that dissipates steadily. Short strings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of malt and coffee. Medium body with flavors of chocolate, malt and slight hops. The finish is roasty with a sweet chocolate malt aftertaste. Slightly above average overall.

Bottle: Poured black with brown edges, head was beige cream. Aroma was sweet malt and chocolate. Taste is rich and gritty roasted burnt chocolate and malts, finish is palate drying.

12 oz bottle into English pint. My bottle reads 6.2% ABV. Pours what seems like black til its held to the light, after which it exposes brown tints, making it look like root beer. Has a small quickly receding beige head. Aroma is bready and like brownies. Taste is mostly sweet with some hop bitterness showing through. Highly carbonated for the style with a milky mouthfeel; full-bodied. A very good porter that deserves better scores on here.

Shipped to me by my wife on a trip to Portland. Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a very dark brown color with a huge foamy tan head that lingered and produced good lacing. The aroma was moderate cocoa, toasty malts, vanilla and Dr Pepper. The flavor was toasty, malty and sweet with notes of cocoa, vanilla and Dr Pepper. Long finish. Medium body. Well done.

Bottled, from Spokane, WA. Near black, rich head. Grapefruity nose with some coffee. Dryish and fairly crisp, without any edges but with plenty of citric hops. A fairly light bodied, hop centered porter with good late bitterness.

courtesy of googzoid10 pours brown, thick lasting beige head. aroma, strong floral hop aroma, some dark fruit/berry like, lactic/moldy nose with some light malt and coffee roast.. flavor, sweet and mild malt with a touch of tartness of dark fruits, wheat, lots of hops and light caramel. Some bitter chocolate with citrus like elements covering the mouthfeel and light roast/coffee finish. Just could not get into this beer, some of the flavors seemed a little off.
