Tasting at Papsø
Amber color. Dusty aroma, old coffee grouds, chilli pepper. Some malt flavor, light residual sweetness; light dusty and coffee afterflavor. Not convincing.

22 ounce bottle courtesy of jcwattsrugger. Thanks! Pours a light brown with a thin head. Aroma is bitter coffee with a bit of a chili pepper note. Taste is sweet coffee notes with a bitter finish. A bit of a peppery note but far less than the aroma. Thin-medium bodied.

pours light amber, beige head. aroma grainy, spices, coffee, malty and mocha. flavor, malty, grainy, wheat, lots of coffee goodness make this one a pleasure to drink. All the regular aspects of a good amber with extra coffee, not much bitterness, nice roasty finish, mild chocolate. Simple but wow this one was tasty.

Interesting amber/copper coloured body with a thinnish tan head - I was expecting darker, but looks fairly good. Aroma of tobacco, malt, coffee, raisins and plums. Medium-bodied; Sharp pungent coffee and malt flavours roam through with a touch of caramel and nuts finishing off the taste. Aftertaste leads more into the sweet and nuttiness aspects and leaves the coffee behind. Overall, not such a successful beer in my mind - more malt and bitterness needed, closer to a porter - but this was interesting to try. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Liquor Outlet in Boonton, New Jersey on 03-October-2009 sampled at home on the Eastern Shore of Virginia on 24-October-2009.

Crystal clear copper beer, with a sticky, well-sustained lace - this beer really does showcase the character of the coffee beans, without a whole lot getting in the way of their character - the aroma prepares you for this, with loads of freshly roasted beans, and not much else going on - fairly creamy in the mouth, light to medium bodied - the full character of the coffee beans is in here, but their acidity and bitterness is suppressed skillfully, with a moderate toffee and vanilla sweetness to keep anything that remains of these qualities in balance - it’s really not terribly complex, but their ability to harness the flavor of the coffee and make it work in such a light beer is impressive - reminds a bit of Furthermore Oscura, only not as artfully done (that beer has bolder coffee flavor that is more balanced and integrated) - still quite good, though.
