On tap at the brewpub pouring up deep dark chocolate brown with tan head and fading quickly ring of foam. The mild aroma brings up mostly prunes and dates as well as a faint sense of dark roasted malts. Why do TBBC brewed beers always have such a light aroma? Maybe it is the appearance of this brew but the very first flavor note I get is chocolate. That note is quickly followed by prunes, dates and brown sugar sweetness. To midway dark roasted malts and chocolate brownie surge forward and head into the finish supported by the additional note of a pleasing yet thin layer of molasses. The robust prunes, dates and figs really dominate the flavor while the sweet and roasty malts seem to be playing a flavorful supporting role. This has come together very nicely. Well done. I wish the aroma was a little, ok, a lot fuller.
