Bottle marked as Berkshire Raspberry Barleywine via a trade with cletus. Pours with a fading tan head over a hazy amber hued body. Aroma of real raspberries, all the way down to the bitter seeds, caramel and a bit harsh. Taste reminds me a lot of a low ABV version of DFH Fort. Lots of raspberry with a very bitter finish. Medium carbonation.

Pours bright amber into a snifter. Sickly head quickly recedes to nothing. Mild raspberry aromas. Medium bodied with raspberries an mild hops. Alcohol is well-hidden.

Courtesy of BA trade. Pours amber, tan head.Aroma fruity - raspberry, hoppy and just overall weak aroma. Taste of raspberry and hops, lingering tartness of the raspberries with a light hoppy finish. No idea how this one falls into the barleywine category as pet the label.

OK Sea Bass, what did you bring us here. The bottle says barleywine, ratebeer has strong ale in the title and it has been entered as a fruit beer style. What the hell is it? Diving in I may find out. Pours deep clear copper with thin near tan head. The aroma is big hits of raspberry extract with just hints of malt and no barleywine fruity esters. The taste is big in raspberry goodness. The raspberry can be pretty darn tasty from time to time if you choose to ignore the pure extract nature of the flavor. It is nearly sickeningly sweet with none of the tartness that comes with the actual fruit. I get just a hint of malt in the background. This one disappoints on all levels. It is hardly even a fruit beer since it didnt taste like actual fruit was use during brewing. Putting barleywine on the label is just criminal.

This beer is labeled as a barley wine! The label looks just like the one shown here but it says barleywine instead of strong ale. It has got to be one of the strongest fruit beers I’ve ever tasted. Acquired in a trade with RCL. Very tart raspberry aroma. Attractive reddish orange appearance. It is mouthwatering before you taste it. Medium bubbly alky brew slaughters the palate. Decent carbonation for a BW. Strongish kick ass flavors. Difficult at times. Dull raspberry indication. Quite unique. Thanks for the chance to taste this unique brew. Ray, I owe you one.

Reddish amber ale with a light white head. Light raspberry aroma with alcohol wafting through. Sweet corny alcohol in mouth, with raspberry extract. Unidimensional. Mondial 2005.

2004 bottle. Lovely dark ruby, deep red-raspberry appearance (maroon, chartreuse, merlot). Solid dark beige head. Aroma of stiff but fresh raspberries, plenty of caramel malt mixed with a strong sense of alcohol. The aroma seems powerful, yet very flavorful and intense. Flavor is full of fresh raspberry essence, lots of sticky sweetness, but cut nicely by the large dose of alcohol. Hops take the backburner, but this still tastes great. It does get pretty heavy with the alcohol. Good lingering tart fruitiness on the finish. Yeast and graininess in the palate; beer has a medium-full body. Good stuff.
