This strong, dark lager was originally brewed as a liquid bread to sustain Bavarian monks while fasting. Its complex malt character comes from brewing with many varieties of dark roasted caramel malt and long periods of cold storage.

Thanks Santa! Dark brown color with a reddish tint, bubbly head. Aroma is dark caramel with a bit of dusty cocoa and dark figgy fruits. Light body, at least for a doppel, but its still a really nice.

Thanks to Ughsmash for this one! A good tan head rides over a deep dark garnet colored body. The head recedes quickly as some Dopplebocks do. Caramel malt aroma with a touch of raisin. Good malty Dopple.

24 fl oz bottle, thanks to Carsten. Pours deep amber, golden and visible. Has a diminished off-white head. Deep and dark barley, dry woody and some notes of dried raisins. Flavour is dry, malty, breadish and a slight chocolate smoothness and slight bitter. Ends with a woody tone and a warming alcohol.

bottle - Pours dark amber with a 2 finger, fading head. The aroma is very malty and has a hint of dark fruit in it. The flavor is sweet, as expected, with some caramel and a touch of fruit as well as mild alcohol. It’s medium bodied and very easy to drink.

A good doppel. It doesn’t have any the caramel tastes common to so many bocks, but rather alcohol and sweet malt. The alcohol is prominent inthe flavor and aroma and I guessed this was much stronger than it actually is. On the thick side for the style. Poured from a 22 oz. bottle.

Wax-topped bomber, labeled brewmasters reserve, 8% abv - very dark ruby pour, with thick off-white lace - pretty rich, caramel, cherry, cinnamon aroma - fairly high carbonation, but the mouthfeel is relatively creamy in spite of this - not as sweet as a lot of doppels, which is a nice change - the moderate dryness compliments a cocoa flavor - the caramel malt comes through quite a bit, along with a hint of wintery spices, and a touch of warming alcohol - finishes almost peppery, with some spicy hops to balance out the lingering sweetness and cinnamon flavor - a fairly well-balanced brew, from a fairly underrated brewery.

(Bottle 47 cl) Pours a beautiful, clear reddish brown with a creamy, off-white head. Sweetish, roasted malt aroma. Medium body with lots of sweet, roasted malts and quite some alcohol. Lovely. 011206

A deep red beer with a thin rim of brown head. The aroma is of over ripe fruits and caramel. The flavor is sweet malty with notes of caramel, leading to a dry bitter and roasted end. More like a stout than a Doppelbock.

Dark amber color with tan head. Roasty malt aroma with some fruit and a hint of alcohol. Rich roasted malt flavors that aren’t too sweet. It is a well balanced mix of flavors. There are caramel malts, chocolate malts, mild toffee, molasses and dark fruit notes. All the flavors are even with no out of place bright components. At the end there is some alcohol warmth. Very enjoyable dopple bock.

Red copper brown with a thin off white head. Sweet fruity and spicey vinous aroma. Good sweet malt with raisin notes and light torrefied coffee and alcohol burn in mouth. Jan. 2005.
