Reviewed from notes.
I poured this into a pint glass and a wine glass.
The appearance was actually the same in both: yellow to hazy orange color with a one finger white bubbly head that died pretty quickly. There wasn’t any lacing.
The smell had some sweet and tart apple notes, and honestly, there’s a decent oakiness in there as well. I even got a light vanilla in there.
The taste took those previously mentioned flavors and gave it the sweet and the tart and a light woodiness.
On the palate, well, the harshness is there, but I expected that, still it seemed as it warmed, the harshness dissipated a bit and became a bit softer.
Overall, hey, number two cider from Woodchuck I could do again.

Not sure about this. The cider was sweet and semi-tart green apples, typical woodchuck. The oak never seemed to sit with the apple but fought with it, nearly a clash. A bit cloying at times. I did not finish this with enthusiasm. Lifeless copper appearance.

Bottle from Total Wine in Sacramento, CA as Winter Hard Cider. Pours light golden amber. Aroma is more wood than apple. Near med body. Flavor is more apple than wood. It’s lightly tart, has hints of wood, and possibly a touch of vanilla. Probably. Turns out to be pretty tasty.

Bottle. Oak, vanilla, and apple aroma. Clear amber, no head as per normal for a cider. Oak, sweet tart apple, and vanilla flavor. Not overly sweet. Light crisp body, lively carbonation.

Apple nose with a surprisingly strong oak component. Crystal clear amber coloir. Oaky apple flavor, approaching that of maple syrup, but not sweet. Very well balanced. A slight green apple tartness in the end, but even-handed throughout. As complex as a mulled cider, but with wood as the only additive. One of Woodchuck’s best, I’m ashamed I have passed this over for so many years.

Pours a mostly clear deep golden color with a smallish white head that quickly dissipates to a ring on the top. Smells of apples, oak, and a hint of sulfur and funk. Pretty lackluster aroma, but I suppose it could be worse. The flavor is what the aroma promised apples juice with a smattering of vanilla and oak to keep it at least a little bit interesting. Medium body with a moderate level of carbonation and a sweet tart mouthfeel. Better than some but overly back sweetened to appeal to the masses.

I’m definitely not an expert on cider but I found this to be very enjoyable with a little phoniness. The taste is obviously enhanced with syrups and additives, but it still shows some interesting notes from the oak barrels.

Location: 12 oz bottle from Colonial Wine and Spirits, 3/27/12, as Woodchuck Winter

Aroma: The nose has a good amount of wood and apple, with some vanilla hints
Appearance: This one pours a clear yellow-gold with basically no head or lace
Flavor: The taste is fairly sweet, but the wood flavors do provide some balance here
Palate: The body is pretty light, but that woodiness gives it a pretty unique feel for the style
Overall Impression: I actually found this one really interesting. I don't know how much I liked it, but I definitely found it interesting. It is certainly quite different from what I think of when I think of a Cider.

12 oz bottle. Pours a clear old gold color with no head, just a ring of white bubbles. Aroma is apples. What a surprise? Things that might be there, but might just be my imagination: wood, cinnamon...The wood definitely comes through in the taste. The oak imparts a little vanilla. The carbonation is average, body medium to near-thin. This is definitely the best Woodchuck I’ve had. I tried rating the Summer one but they wouldn’t let me! Too alcopopish I guess...

12oz bottle from Pick’s poured into a shaker. Pours a clear dark gold with no head. Aroma is apple. Apple cider and I may smell some oak but it could just be wishful thinking. Taste is light sour. Mostly sour green apple with a good hint of vanilla. Light bodied with a sticky texture. Lively carbonation and a decently long, sour finish. Overall, not bad. Their barrel select is better but this probably has to be second best.
