(Bottle 35,5 cl) Courtesy of Degarth. Pours completely black and opaque with a handsome, tall, dense light brown head leaving some lacework. Tart but also burned aroma. Rather thin in body with very burned, ashy malt notes. The finish is dry. Not bad. 080707

From 12 oz bottle. Pours black with a huge creamy light brown head. Thick malty and liqourice aroma. Smoked flavour with a rather thin body. Smoked, dry and slight sour finish.

Pour is a black with a small tan head. Aroma is very roasty with notes of peat and coffee. Smells like roasting peat over an open fire. Flavor is roasty with a bit of dark chocolate. Finish is a bit weak but so are most dry stouts. The aroma is what puts this one over the top.

Bottled. An almost pitch black beer with a faint red shine under a lacing brown head. The aroma is sweet malty with strong notes of roasted malt as well as lighter notes of coffee. The flavor is sweet roasted combined with notes of cocoa, leading to a dry end with light notes of coffee. The body is a bit thin.

Bottled Feb. 06 Looks like I had the right beer already to mark my passing VENOM on the 100 Beer Club list. Poured in a stout shaker, there’s a nice slightly sour cherry smell, followed by a nose of bittersweet chocolate. Bit of sediment left behind in the bottle. Black beer body under fizzy brown CO2 head. When I get it close to my nose, it somehow smells dry, perhaps a bit like a riesling. Actual taste is a bit of a letdown: the carbonation is overdone and gassy, not what I’d exect in my stout. Coffee and chocolate malts are there, maybe with a little too much astingency. A bit of Guinness sourness can be found. So this brew has a few dings against it, but I realize this may be a bit past its prime. However, I’m pleased to find Lakefront in my area again.

Black with a tan head. Loads of coffee aroma as well as bitter chocolate. This is a dry stout with more flavor than many others. There is a nice roasted malt flavor, and like many of Lakefront’s beers, rather sweet. More flavor than American Guinness.

Deep brown body with red highlights, thin off-white head. Chocolatey, toasty aroma. The first impression the beer makes on the palate is its acidity (tartness), leading to roasted malt and dry chocolate flavors. Quite thin-bodied. As the beer warms a hint of grapes develops. A decent beer but there are many better stouts.

Thanks to Darkover for the trade. Lakefront is one of those brewers where all their beers are decent but nothing really stands out. This Stout is along those parameters. Dark brown color (not quite opaque) with a medium thin light brown head. Thin and sticky lacing. The aroma is nice and roasty with coffee and cocoa. Medium-bodied (just a little thin for the style) with lots of coffee and a little chocolate in the flavor. The finish is dry and mildly roasty. Overall a fair offering. The components for an exeptional Dry Stout are all here, it just needs a little more oomph.

Bottle pours a deep black with a small tan head that leaves spotty corse lacing. Aroam is of coffee and bittersweet chocolate. Flavor is very strong coffee grounds. Like when someone forgests to clean out the filter from the morning before. A salty mineral taste and a fairly thin feel. Bitter coffee trailer.

Quite a decent Dry Stout, and a big surprise from such a mediocre brewery - this is actually quite like an authentic, Irish-made stout - slight bitterness, with a hint of mineral salts to give it that "real irish stout" taste - medium bodied and somewhat chocolatey - pretty good.
