Bottle from Fyne Ales’ brewery tap. Black body with a thick beige head. Good lacing. Aroma of Twiglets, black cherry, coffee and blueberry. Flavour of burnt toast, brambles, peppery spice, espresso and ash. Thin to medium body with a smooth texture. Very bitter and dry - it doesn’t quite gel, in my opinion.

Thuizz. Koffie smaak is goed maar de combi van koffie, stout en bitter van de hop blijft moeilijk en geeft een ondefinieerbare (na)smaak. Backlog from 2015/06/09.

Coffee and alcohol in the nose. Coffee and alcohol in the taste, along with some toffee, caramel notes. Watery mouthfeel and sweet aftertaste, the alcohol overly present. Ok, but nothing spectacular.

Black colored, some sediment, medium creamy tan head, nice lacing and good lasting. Aroma is mostly strong ground coffee, some roasted malt. Taste is medium sweet caramel, chocolate, some roasted malt, strong coffee, light+ coffee acidity, dry bitter coffee finish and lasting aftertaste. Medium bodied, soft carbonation. Coffee is dominating here, so if you don’t want coffee in your beer avoid this one... me, I like it!

Bottle at home. Almost black with short lasting fizzy brown head. Lots of very nice sweet coffee beans, roasted malts, dark chocolate, dried apple, fresh berries, light bitter hops and light tropical fruits. Light sweet with under medium bitterness. Medium bodied with slick almost watery feel. Nice stuff, slightly too watery maybe but the coffee works very well here.

Dutch coffee porter with Guatemala coffee. Moussy and fairly thick, lacing, yellow beige head, eventually dissipating completely, over a very dark mahogany coloured beer, hazy, blackish at first but still well transparent. Strong, aromatic, tangy bouquet of indeed coffee beans and espresso, beautifully mingled with dark baker’s chocolate, smoked meat, bayleaf, dried grapefruit peel, black tea, beef broth, candied figs, dried plums, baked banana, kahlua, black pepper, cumin seed, cocoa powder and a touch whisky. Smooth, creamy onset of candied fruits but only restrainedly sweet, dried stonefruit and raisins, deep basic sourishness with a certain dried lemon peel quality to it, soft carbo, oily and supple, ’fatty’ mouthfeel but not too viscous, nice toasted, caramelly, nutty and eventually more and more chocolatey maltiness, layered but not too demanding, accompanied by a gentle coffee flavour in the end, warm and roasted, juicy still with a subtle candied sweetness all along; finish also has peppery hop bitterness and nice smooth caramel plus a touch smokiness and ’meatiness’. Alcohol remains perfectly hidden. Lovely porter, and the coffee does add an extra layer of flavour; there are no off-flavours either. Clearly well thought out, I like this a lot.

330ml bottle @ Chez Sophie, Shrewsbury. Pours black with creamy tan head. Aroma is bitter coffee, liquorice and caramel. Taste follows with a big coffee influence. Tasty.

500 ml bottle @ Patricks. Dark brown, not far from black body with a huge fluffy brown head that disappears rather quick. Aroma has dark malt, lots of chocolate, slightly roasted and hint of pine. The flavor is rather sweet light roasted malt, toast, fruit, pine, roast and bitter, dark chocolate with moderate bitterness otherwise. Medium body with a roasted malty aftertaste with more bitterness and hint of wood. Quite OK, not that impressive but slightly unusually and at least interesting.

Bottle at home in London - sourced from Beermerchants. Gusher! Thankfully I was quick on the draw and didn’t lose a drop. The beer pours deep brown with a huge, frothy beige head that settles down into a creamy topping. The aroma holds earthy filter coffee, scorched malts, cocoa. Medium sweet flavor with lots of heavily sugared black coffee, some gooey chocolate, roasty malts, moderate earthy bitterness, some dark fruit accents. Medium bodied with active carbonation. Sugary finish with more black coffee, burnt sugars, cocoa, dark malts, raisins, molasses. Perhaps a little simplistic but not bad overall.
