Each year, we celebrate another year in the brewing business by rolling out our stock of barrels and blending different varieties of our oak-aged beers into a fine, one-time only blend for toasting with the valued craft enthusiasts who have helped us get this far. This year, we are releasing a blend composed of three beers previously unseen outside of our cellar: Rum Barrel-Aged Old Numbskull, Bourbon Barrel-Aged Imperial Porter, & Red Wine Barrel-Aged Quad.

Poured from 750mL bottle. Chestnut brown with minimal beige head. Vinous barrel notes, touch of vinegary acidity, feint brown ale quality, background cinnamon rum note. Okay.

From tap. Pours hazy dark brown with a small tan head. Aroma is roasted malty, overripe fruity. Wooden and wineous. Toasted malty and slight caramelish. Sweet and caramelish into the finish.

(On tap @ Anvil and Stave, April 5/17) Pours extremely dark brown with an off white head and lace. Aroma is a bit of near eastern spice, dried red fruits, red wine, a touch tart, caramel, wood. Flavour is tart, fruity, a bit spiced, mulled wine vibe. Caramel backbone. Fairly dry overall, some spirit heat of rum and light bourbon towards the back end. A bit astringent, maybe. Not bad at all, a little oversmooth like FW XX. Medium full body. Average carb. A good sipper.

Bottle - Toffee and cardamom with some dark molasses. Barrel and bourbon notes. Deep dark brown with a decent beige head. Dark toffee and molasses and some cardamom.

Dark color, almost black, with small beige head. Nice aroma, dark malts, vinous, vibrant. Full bodied, good dark malts, dark fruits, moderate acidity, very good vinous character, hints of bourbon, and some woody astringency in the end.

750ml bottle (thx, Alex L.!) at Alex’s in honor of my birthday and CPA PREP finish. Pours a dark brown with beige head. Aroma is sour, fruity and winey. Taste is the winey, bourbony, fruity, sweet and sour. Damn harsh and unbalanced stuff. Maybe it needed much more time in the bottle.

On tap at Anvil & Stave. Pours a very dark mahogany with light head. Aromas of old wine and gin barrels with a bit of toffee and sweet malts. Flavors of caramel-y alcohol, dry raisins, sharp vinous wood, light chocolate and roasted malts. A bit at odds but interesting.

On tap at AleSmith, in the Barrel Aged room, pours black with a small beige head. Aroma brings out an intriguing mix of bourbon, red wine and smoky notes - rather abrasive. Flavour is pretty jumbled, with notes of bourbon, red wine and rum. Boozy, woody and lightly sweet. Nice blend, but not overly decadent or refined.
