Blond, refreshing beer with an exotic nose of passion fruit, mango and grapefruit. The tropical fruit continues in the taste and is well balanced with a slightly bitter aftertaste. A large white foam head tops of this excellent beer.

Bottle @ home. Hazy yellow color, small particles of yeast residu floating in it, average to medium sized, quickly diminishing white head. Aroma is lightly malts, lightly hops, lightly fruity mainly orange and slightly fruitpeel, yeast. Taste wheat, lightly malts, slightly floral, a hint of fruitpeel and softly bitter. Average to medium body, soft carbonation.

At Bruges Beer Fest. Pours hazy golden with a minimal white head. The aroma contains mango, banana, passion fruit, citrus, vanilla. Starts off light sweet and ends light bitter into a very dry finish. Light in body but lively in carbonation, bad balance. Lacks some punch.

No head, flat as a pancake (*); orange golden beer. Faintly spicy, bit malty,... not much of anything...??? Bitterish - herbal flavour, bit grassy, sulphury hops. Touch of white wine. Light body, absence of carbonation. I fear my bottle was a bad one; (*) Cap seemed ill-fitted upon opening - needs to be retried. Retry 29/12/2018: Towering (!), very dense, thick & just off-white head, slowly pitting in over dark golden beer; end of bottle solid yeast. Lightly coloured/toasted malts, spicy, hint of hops. Huge head hampers perception. Waiting long enough, very faintly ureum, preserved orange peel. Bitter, bittering hops' flavour, herbal, garden weeds. Again traces of sulphur. Malty underbuild, but sweetness hereof completely suppressed by the hopgift. Faintly burning MF. Bit slick, light carbonation (most CO² seems to have been knocked out by opening). Definitely the main carbonation problem from the first try is rectified, my fears confirmed. But in the end, only one meagre point gained in appreciation. UA deserves better, I think.

Inglorious’ second one, curious about this as the first one quite charmed me. Bottle from Hopduvel. ’Papery’ lacing, egg-white, thick, moussy head over a cloudy deep golden beer with peachy hue and a ’cloud’ of translucent proteins throughout. Aroma of freshly cut nettles and sorrel, field flowers, overripe strawberry, mango flesh, mouldy lemon, banana, pineapple, white pepper, stale sweat, vanilla, pear syrup, biscuit, caramel, wodka, raw rhubarb, unripe gooseberry, powder sugar, canned apricot, baker’s yeast. Crisp and fruity onset, passion fruit, hint lemon, green banana and a lot of gooseberry, medium carbo quite fit for the style, bit yeasty but not exaggerated, smooth and lean caramelly malt body supporting spicy phenols as well as a growing amount of hop bitterness which ends drying, but very earthy and grassy as well whilst bittering enough to justify the ’IPA’ designation; juicy malts come through rather nicely, and retronasally, there are a lot of floral and mildly citrus peel-like aromas remaining; yeasty too, with a light amount of ’Belgian’ phenols (cloves). Likeable beer with a pleasant dosis of ’noble’ hops, but if you want to be an IPA nowadays, I assume more aromatic American hops are appropriate; in certain ways, I guess this can be linked to the old ’English IPA’ style, which has gone all but extinct. Still, this brew remains very ’Belgian’ as well, with too many esters and phenols - a cleaner flavour profile would make this a lot more important. Let’s conclude then that this is a typical new generation ’Belgian IPA’ yet a very good one at that, enjoyed this a lot.
