Cherry Oud Bruin

2010 bottle. Pours a brownish-amber color with a thin beige head that diminishes quickly to an outer ring. Minimal lacing on the glass. Aroma of dark fruit, grainy malt and oak. Full-bodied with flavors of cherries, earthy malt, caramel and wood. The finish is fruity with a toasty malt and cherry aftertaste. Pretty good all around.

12 oz. bottle, sent from mista (thanks Geoff), pours an opaque dark mahogany / brown with a small beige head that quickly dissipates / fizzes out. Nose brings out loads of fresh cherries upfront, with some mild wild yeast, and very subtle tartness. Flavour is quite intensely sweet from the fresh cherries without being cloying somehow -- the cherries sit atop light tartness and wild yeast that is all buried. More sips reveal a sort of chocolatey cherry decadent dessert. Finishes slightly boozy and very fruity. This wouldn't normally be my kind of thing, but for what it is, it's executed nicely.

2013 bottle at 12.75% ABV. Aroma is very fruity with quite a bit of sweet cherry character. Not much malt character underneath, but hints of toasted bread. I was expecting more Brett character, but it really only has a bit of cherry pie and a very faint barnyard character. Pours an amber brown with a thin tan head that quickly recedes the edges where it disappears. No lacing but medium sized legs. Flavor has a fairly strong sweetness with a big cherry juice flavor. Some light malt character with toasted bread and caramel with just a faint hint of chocolate. Only faint acidity. Lots of cherry pie notes but not much else. Pretty much only a very faint barnyard note, and a hint of alcohol but it is otherwise all hidden by cherry juice. Mouthfeel is medium full bodied with medium low carbonation. Low astringency and medium low alcohol warmth. Overall an interesting take on an oude bruin, but a lot of cherry juice that kind of overwhelms the rest of the beer. I think some age may help add some carbonation and add complexity to the otherwise fairly one dimensional beer. The alcohol is really well hidden though.

From the 12/2013 3R6P gathering +++ Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured an red-orange-brown color with a small foamy off white head that faded quickly and left no lacing. The aroma was tart and sour with notes of barbecue sauce, honey, peach, ketchup and cherry pie. The flavor was tart ketchup, barbecue, honey, beef and cherry pie. Long tart finish of ketchup, barbecue, honey and beef. Medium body. Very weird.

Bottle 12fl.oz.Unclear medium to dark red brown colour with a small, frothy - fizzy, fair lacing, mostly diminishing, off-white head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, caramel, tobacco, prune, date, wood, cherry stona, alcohol. Flavour is moderate to heavy sweet, light to moderate acidic and moderate to heavy bitter with a long duration, cherry, caramel, fruity, prunes. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is flat, finish feel is moderate alcoholic. [20120720]

Very dark brown beer. Short lived tan head. Sourish nose, some cherry, some wood. Smooth palate. Rich deep cherry, sweet and sour and tart at the same time. Finishes slightly malty but cherry totally dominates here. Nice fruity sour.

Bottled. Clear mahogany colour, minimal head. Balsamic cherry aroma. Full bodied where malt sweetness counteracted by mild baklsamic cherry acidity. Intensely flavourful with vinegar and vanilla. Warming brandy-like finish. Great stuff, by far exceeding my expectations.

Bottle thanks to Northernbrews. Pours dark brown. Nose and taste of sour cherry, toffee, cinnamon, vinegar, vanilla, pie crust and other spices. Moderate tartness.
