Oud Bruin (old brown) ale is made with the traditional blend of domestic yeast, wild "Brett" yeast and bacteria that give this ale its distinct aroma. We add a good amount of Michigan cherry juice after fermentation to add life back to this aged beer. Serve at 44-55

Bottle, 10.5% at Spuyten Duyvil as Imperial Olde Brune. Very vinous fruit aroma, very fat cherry. Very dark deep red colour. Almost no head. The flavour is quite sweet, has a lot of cherry flavour. The finish is tart, slightly sour with a good distinct cherry bitterness. Hint of marcipan in the finish, but not bad at all. On the sweet side, but OK balanced by the sourness.

Courtesy of darkguardian. Bottle poured dark brown. The nose is cherry. This beer is smooth and a great intro into sours. It’s not to bitter, not to sour, just easy sippin with notes of brown sugar, molasses, honey, and cherry. If this beer is really 11.5% (not on the label) it’s freakin Gandalf in a bottle; cuz it makes that alcohol dis-a-ppear....
Just had a 2010 bottle by way of hopscotch and it was much smoother, less sour, and had huge cherry flavors. Wow, i’m movin her up from 4.3 to 4.6......

Draught at HopCat, RBSG 2010. Sweet and sour aroma with huge candied cherries. Sour, slightly acetic flavor with caramel and tons of cherries (tastes like those marachino cherries from the bottle). Really fun and interesting, though not quite great.

Served on tap at Hopcat in Grand Rapids. Poirs a clear ruby color with a medium head. Decent head retention and lacing. Aroma of tart cherries and a faint vinegar note. The taste is tart cherries and a very mild funkiness. Fairly sweet. Medium bodied.

Courtesy of HOPSHUNTER. Pours amber with gold edges and tiny off white head. The aroma is sweet fruity and quickly going toward molasses as well as some sweet apple juice in the background. The taste is as expected, sweet with apples and plums and then quickly becomes more tart and fruity with kind of a maple syrup covered dark green apples. It progressively gets more and more tartness and less and less sweetness into the finish. Wow. Begins big and sweet and rich and becomes refreshing and tart and spicy into the finish. Nice stuff indeed.

Bottle. Pours a clear very dark red with a very thin brown head. Aroma is full of cherries with a sour but syrupy aroma. Definitely a dark cherry presence. Flavor begins with sweet dark cherries, but a sour note grows quickly as well as a bit of a cough syrup flavor that has a hint of alcohol.

Bottle thanks to ericandersnavy/boomer0813. Pours with a small, off-white head and a hazed brown body. Aroma of maraschino cherry syrup and some dark cherry preserve. Taste is sweet and then sour. Fruity and boozy. Light bubbles.

12 oz bottle as Olde Brune. Pours a dark, nearly opaque brown with just a light tan ring for a head. Aroma has heavy cherry, molasses, and chocolate aromas, very syrupy and sugary. Flavor features lots of cherry combined with molasses and chocolate syrup, heavy raisin, and just a slight tartness. Seemed off at first, but it comes together a lot more after the first few sips.

cheers to tpd975 for opening this gem. pours dark brown, quickly disappearing mahogany head. aroma, mild caramel malts, strong dark berries with a mild touch of sourness. flavors, complex as usual with Kuhnhenn, thick caramel palate blends with the nice sourness and tart aspect of dark cherries giving the flavor a puree like finish. Thin warming abv. and a wodnerful finish of mild sour buttery caramel with loads of fruit goodness. Last time I had such an amazing Flemish red, was HOTD Michael. This one is another perfect example of good sours.

5th Annual MBG Winter Beer Festival, Grand Rapids. Reddish, murky brown body, medium tan head. The aroma reminds me of Tenacious Cassis or Raspberry Eisbock, with huge, burnt, concentrated caramel, butterscotch, booze, and fermented cherries. The high-octane body is fairly tart, with cherries, toast, toffee, burnt caramels, and alcohol. Rough-hewn, potent, and quite tasty.
