Bottle. Very dark brown. Not much head. A rather boozy aroma jumps out of the glass, something I don’t remember from when I had it at the tap room. The aroma also has sweet vanilla and brown sugar elements from the barrel, and the signature dark fruits and rich malts of the scotch ale. On the palate, this is very sweet, with light fruits and a pretty strong dark malt scotch ale character. The barrel is all over this beer, with brown sugar and bourbon. It doesn’t taste as hot as it smelled. The big thing with this beer is that the interaction between the scotch ale and the barrel elements is only okay. On paper, they ought to be quite cohesive but I don’t know if I’ve ever really loved a bourbon Scotch Ale before so it might just be something that can only peak so high.

Bottle 155/246. Cloudy dark brown beer. No head at all. Very low carbonation in the smooth soft palate. Aniseed malt with a chocolate streak. Smooth coconut bourbon and a little wood. Not dry. Finishes smooth. Good stuff but missing a little fine tuning to be really great/

From the 3/2012 3R6P tasting. Simply amzaing.+++Sampled from a 750 ml brown bottle this beer poured thick, black and oily with a medium sized foamy beige head that lingered and left good lacing. The aroma was vanilla, cocoa, coconut, sweet malts and chocolate syrup. The flavor was vanilla, chocolate syrup, coconut, toasty malts, light fruity hops and a hint of cream. The finish was long cream, vanilla, coconut and chocolate syrup. Thick and full body. Wonderful

Sampled from bottle. Poured a caramel color with a small tan head. Aroma was smooth, vanilla, with notes of chocolate, toffee, malts. Flavor was smooth woody vanilla, with a touch of perfectly sweet chocolate and malt. After having the base beer and then the extremely disappointing Rum variety, this one was *awesome*.

Sample at the Jackie O’s Bottle Sale on 08/27/2011. This brew is a murky reddish-brown color with a thin tan head that was nearly gone by the time the glass got to me. Short strings of lacing. Aroma of peaty malt, bourbon and vanilla. Rich body with an oaky bourbon character and notes of dark malts, vanilla and figs. The finish is earthy malt and bourbon. Good all around.

Brown with a small tan head. Aroma of malt, bouron and vineous alcohol. Sweet and malty flavour with a slightly tart tannic note and some oak. A bit cloying in the sweetness and with notable alcohol

’09 notes Bottle at Wazoo. Pours dark brown, beige/mocha head. Aroma of bourbon, caramel, dark chocolate, dark fruits, hints of toffee. Flavor, warming abv, enjoyed this with some room temperature and it was perfect. Bourbon comes across perfectly and remains subdued though present leaving a nice warming and sweet vanilla after taste. Dark fruits; raisins, prune with chocolate and nice toffee add for an interesting thick palate. Definitely my favorite barrel version so far. Gets better with every sips and ends with a nice smooth bourbon, toffee, dark fruits meshed together.
