Thornbridge Imperial Raspberry Stout. We all know that drinking beer is a congenital pastime and brewing beer can be just as fraternal. This collaboration between Rob Lovatt of Thornbridge and Jessica Heidrich St. Eriks is testament to the friendship and inspiration that brewing can produce.

This Imperial Raspberry Stout pours rich and dark with aromas and tastes of liquorice and chocolate, complimented by the generous infusion of prime Scottish raspberries.

Bottle, at Øltorget ,Vulkan. A gorgeous looking beer, black in color and topped by a dense, finger-thick, dark beige head. The aroma has roasted malts dominating, the raspberries coming strong after a while, and there’s also some coffee notes and woody hints. Surprisingly there’s no alcohol to be detected. It’s vinous on the palate, full-bodied, smooth and lightly warming. Berries, coffee and some roasted malts in the flavor. Lasting raspberry flavor that gets a bit too much, else it’s sure a nice and tasteful beer. On the other hand, perhaps it needs this much raspberry. 140503

Shared bottle at Cardinal. Black, light brown foam. Aroma dominated by raspberry. Very complex taste; some roasted tones, sourness, much raspberry. Quite light altogether, considering that it has 10 % alcohol. Very nice!

Appearance: Dark as the deepest dungeon with some red blood stains. A nice big beige head that leaves a fine lacing.
Aroma: Raspberry, chocolate and mild roasted dark malt.
Palate: Medium + body. Slightly sweet with an ok bitterness. Soft carbonation.
Taste: Raspberry, chocolate, dark malt and roasty.
Overall impression: Unusual and lovely impy. The raspberry were present but not heavy dominant. All the other usual stuff also. Heavy and yet smooth and easy drinkable. Dangerously well hidden alcohol.

At Borefts Beer Festival 2013. Black with a small tan head. Aroma of dark chocolate with a lot of fresh raspberry on top. Dry, roasted flavour with chocolate character, and juicy, fresh raspberry character lending a little tartness in the finish

500 ml bottle, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. Brewed 2013. ABV is 10%. Black colour, dark ruby in the highlights, large tan head. Strong aroma of raspberries, raspberry chocolates and dark malts, hints of blackcurrants. The flavour is distinctly roasty and fruity - dark malts, coffee and dark bitter chocolate, and distinct raspberries. Hints of liquorice and blackcurrants. Bitter and tart finish.

Draught @ Malja, Kuopio

Pours pitch black with a smooth white head. Aroma of tart raspberries, roasted malts, dark chocolate and mild sourness. Taste is tartish, roasty and slightly lactic sour with loads of raspberries, notes of licorice and dark chocolate. Finish is smooth, fruity and tartish with loads of berries, sourish lactic notes, hints of dark chocolate. Quite a raspberry overload, and I’m not sure whether I like the sourness here or not.
